Norse runes and CLAMP
I love the Runes. It's one of my favorite oracles, along with I-Ching.
Anyway, I was copy-pasting a Spanish translation to![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
laurus_nobilis about Mokona Modoki, and there's a part where Clow comes up with their real names (it's not like most people, who swear Mokona is the white one and Modoki the black one), which are Soel and Larg (seems to be the official transcription from the katakana "soeru" and "raagu"). And Yuuko complains, saying that sounds like letters from an ancient magic.
Well, she's kind of right, you see. Since I have the proof their names are bastardations of Norse runes. CLAMP do think of everything, don't they? They're killing my brain over symbolism.
Mokona Modoki's earrings are magic seals, again according to the Mokona Modoki story. They must never take them off. Indeed, Keroberos and Yue also have earrings, haven't you noticed? That's common to Clow's creatures. But I digress.

Can you see the symbols in them? They are runes, of course. The words below aren't the name of the rune or anything, but they sound similar, and that's what matters. Now let's move for the analysis of both runes. I took it from this site, which I love. As some of you may know, runes weren't only the alphabet of this civilization: they also used it for fortune-telling. And if you read the meaning of these runes, you'll get a surprise: Ohkawa-san didn't choose the runes and names of Mokona Modoki randomly. They're a part of everything. And they actually define what TRC and HOLiC are all about.
