Ranting about Spanish manga
You know what I love about the XXXHOLiC Spanish edition? How they translate the funny parts and make it funnier. For instance, there's certain ingenious sarcasm in Watanuki's phrases. For instance:
"Y encima, merienda a la carta, tío!"
(On top of that, snacks a la carte, dude!)
cracked me up today.
They take their artistic licenses, but the meaning remains intact and it looks great and witty. Yuuko keeps adding sweet endings to her phrases when she asks Watanuki for something (I mean, like 'sweetheart', 'darling', et cetera), and that way she sounds more of an adulator when it's convenient. She's hilarious when she talks in slang. She's not formal at all, even sometimes she calls Watanuki for his first name, or even worse, she calls him "Wata" XD
And you know what I hate about the Tsubasa Spanish edition? Sakura never knew Syaoran's name in the translation. She still hasn't. She calls him "muchacho" (boy) all the time, and nobody seems to bother to tell her his name is Syaoran. (honestly, is she that dumb? she keeps hearing Fye and Mokona calling him by his name, and stil!)
Apart from that, I don't mind anything about it. I like the fact Fye's name was left as Fye; and meanwhile, Syaoran's name is written in Chinese romanization (Xiao Lang). I don't mind that, since the Spanish CCS manga also spells it that way, so it kind of clicks.
Tonight I'll post again. I have everything set: CCS and X rants! It's graphic wise, the complement pictures are ready ^_^
Ooh, I almost forgot. Laurus inspired me to this, because of certain white Mokona phrase.
Scotch was the drink of the night. The dark-haired man was especially affected by the alcohol: it went up to his head. He turned to his companion, who was serving herself her fifth glass on the rocks, and looked at her seductively. She glared him back, feeling uncomfortable, her face red. He didn't know if the woman had that color because of the drink, or she was blushing.
"Yuuko..." His face became serious and passionated for a few seconds.
"What do you want, Clow?"
"Do you find me sexy?", he asked, amused, with an innocent smile in his lips, and pointing at himself with his index finger.
Yuuko fell off the couch, in shock. She shook her head, her long, jet black hair shining at the light. God, she couldn't believe he said that!
"You're speaking nonsense," she finally replied, not looking at him. She was reddier than ever.
"I really want to know what do you think of me, you gorgeous."
"..."
"Well?"
"Of course not! I-I-I... I don't like bespactacle creeps!"
"Ah. I'm disappointed. I was hoping you did."
"... why, if I may?"
"Because I've always been considered a sort of exotic beauty for the ladies. I do have a nice body under my robes, you know."
"..."
"What? Why are you looking at me like that?"
"I didn't know that conceited side of yours."
"It shows up after the tenth whiskey."
"Isn't that nice..."
"You know... I do find you sexy, Yuuko."
"That's the Scotch talking again, you arse." She was annoyed, but still, she felt her face hot again.
Off to study, then.

O_O You know, those two are like Niles & C.C. with magic powers (scary, I know!).
Re: translations, I love it when they add those touches (*if* they do it right, of course!). In the Argentinian CCS translation, they've replaced Kero's Osaka accent with a Buenos Aires dialect. Apart from being informal, the stereotypical "porteño" is egocentric and full of himself... fits a certain Sun Guardian very well, I think XD

It was not my intention. I just wanted to make Clow say the "Do you find me sexy?" line, which is, by the way, a Tokyo Babylon phrase. But I didn't think Clow would do that sober, so I made them drunk for the sake of the bunny. And a TB!Seishirou face in him would be hilarious XD
