That's a wrap
A 2x1 HOLiC, two creepy stories in one post. And with this, I finish the volume off.
But first,
icephoenix scanned a page from the original for me (thanks!) and now we know for sure what did they mean by crow gods. My theory was right: the midgets are a flock of karasu tengu! <3 I don't understand why did they make the tengu some sort of kami (god), when they're youkai (monster)... ah well... more things they could've been better with some translation notes and/or a mythology section at the end.
Alright, I uploaded the whole volume in Chinese scanlations on a streamload account. I don't know if this should be easy, as I've never used this before. But here are the instructions.
1) go to the site *points above*
2) log in with this data

3) go to inbox, if you're not there
4) download the zips ^^u
Just a guide.
Part 1: 37, 38, 39
Part 2: 40, 41, 42
Part 3: 43, 44
Part 4: 45, 46
Part 5: 47
Part 6: 48
XXXHOLiC volume 4 part 5: more cherry references, and a new use for salt
Splash: Watanuki is hanging upside down from a tree with tinkerbells in bloom. He holds on to a hand with a butterfly bracelet and inside a kimono sleeve, butterfly-patterned. Like we don't know whose hand is that...
The story starts with a flashback. We see a smaller, cuter Kimihiro walking down the street, carrying a market bag, and wearing an uniform, I assume from primary school. It's a similar jacket than the one he uses now, and shorts instead of trousers. He should be there like 12 or something around.
Then we see creepy mist (you know the kind.) He screams it not to follow him. Then it transforms into a lot of ugly spirits with lots of eyes. He starts running, and keeps yelling them to leave him alone. It's such a volume 1 scene... That means Watanuki hasn't changed much over the years XD
Then he hears a voice telling him to use salt. He sees a boy around his age, leaning from a wall, and he asks him if he had bought some salt. Kimi-chan says yes. The boy tells him to throw a few to the things. He does, and they disappear.
He asks the boy (I'll call him... I don't know... [glances at her Magi Day present] Melchor? no, Casper! if I call him Balthazar, Laurus will be dead) if he can see them, and he tells him he does. Casper asks Kimi his name, and then adds if his birthday is on April 1st. Watanuki tells him to go on and mock. But Casper think it's cool, that way nobody can't forget the date. Besides, it's a very special date for him. Kimi asks him if he doesn't feel sick with those things around, and he says no, and if they do come again, just use the saltLuke and that's it.
On a different day, Kimi comes back from shopping, and finds Casper on the street. Kimi explains, he helps a lot with dinner. He doesn't have parents, and he lives with his landlady and a tutor. They're both kind to him, even though they're not his family (good, he has no Dursleys!) He used to live with them, but Kimi insisted he wanted an apartment for himself, in order to learn to take care of his things. They didn't like the idea, but he convinced them. (*snif* my baby! ;_;) Casper says he's so brave, and Kimi denies it. Then he asks him if he doesn't feel lonely sometimes. Watanuki looks at him, and then he answers he does, a little bit, with a sad smile. Casper holds his hand and repeats he's brave, trying to cheer the boy up.
Maybe it's a different day, maybe it's the same. Casper is at Kimi's place, and he makes him company as he makes a cake. He explains it's the landlady's birthday and there's a party tonight. Casper recalls 4/1 is close, and Kimi notices he learned his birthday. That's no surprise from Casper, as he can't forget the date anyway. He tells him he'll give him a present, and Kimi, embarrased, asks him not to. Casper says friends give birthday presents to each others. "Friends?" "Aren't we?" "O-of course!" "Then I'll see you on your birthday."
It's april first. Kimi meets Casper under a cherry tree on a park (no, no Sakurazuka nearby, and I really doubt Kimihiro is his type.) Kimi wears a brand new uniform, so we can assume he's now a freshman at junior high. The uniform is pretty and elegant, with a blazer and a tie, really elegant. But let's go back to the story before I fangirl even more.
Casper deposits his present on Kimihiro's hand. It's small. He thanks him, glances at it, but doesn't understand what it is (he doesn't say it, but has a blank face and a question mark over him.) He tells him he wants to give him a birthday present as well, and he asks what's his birthday. But then Casper starts fading. There's a gush of wind around him, and petals fly. Yeah, you guessed it right: Casper is afriendly ghost.
"Once I told you April first is an important date to me. It's because that day I have to say good-bye to this place. It's the day of my eternal rest at Nirvana."
Kimihiro is in dispair. Obviously, who wouldn't. I just want to hug the poor thing!
"The present is one of my bones." And now we see the thing at his hand: it seems like one of those small finger bones. "Keep it and don't lose it. But soon it will disappear. I'm glad we were friends."
"No, we weren't," he replies, determined. "We STILL are friends!"
Casper smiles and vanishes under a rain of sakura petals.
-- End of flashback -- take a break while you use a kleenex tissue --
We see old Kimihiro's hand with the bone, and then the current hand with three petals. He's in front of Yuuko's house, with some huge bags at his side. There are sakura petals falling down.
"On that time, so many spirits chased me I was exhausted, but I felt safe. Must've been because of the present."
He looks at the sky, and says thank you.
Yuuko and Mokona come out of the house, and Yuuko yells him to hurry, as it's time to celebrate his birthday and Himawari and Doumeki are waiting for them at the park. Watanuki is back to his normal self, and screams why HE had to prepare all the food, when HE is the birthday boy!! Yuuko and Mokona ignore them. Mokona starts singing "Happy Birthday" (XDDDD), and Yuuko runs to the street. Kimi takes the bags in a hurry, and tells her to wait for him.
End.

XXXHOLiC volume 4 part 6: shush, talk to the hand... not!
Splash: Yuuko poses again, with a dark dress with a big back cleavage. There are flowers around her and tatooed on her skin.
Warning: Do not read this at night. If you think the Casper story is freaky, this one is worse. In the terror sense, I mean.
------------------
Kimono.
Paper umbrella.
Tatami carpet.
Barbecue!!
XD I'm not being silly. They're making barbecue at the garden, and Kimihiro, who's at the grill, complains it's the first time someone makes one with a tea ceremony background (OMGWTFBBQ! literally). Of course, Yuuko doesn't care, and drinks some beer with Mokona and enjoys the beef a la parrilla.
Later, Watanuki comes back home, glad because he could take the BBQ leftovers in a bag. He passes in front of a magnolia tree, and looks at it (now we know the January calendar flowers are white magnolias.) And then, between the flowers, there's a human arm.
O_O
Kimi runs from it, but he convinces himself he was alucinating. He walks in front of a cafe (it's called Cat's Eye o_o), and there's a sign outside with the menu of the day. And behind it... the arm. Maybe it's from a mannequin, he thinks. And then, the fingers move.
O__O
He runs again, freaked out, until he gets to a park. He tries to make sense out of it, but it's impossible, as in the middle of the park, coming from inside the floor, there's the arm again, stretched out.
O___O
Nobody can see it, so must be a spirit. What's it doing there? A petal falls inside the palm. The hand closes in a fist. When it opens, the petal is gone.
Then a boy sees the arm, and tells his friend there's a hand there. The pal can't see it, so the boy points it out, and bends down. When it's about to touch it, Watanuki acts out of instint, and pulls him far away from it. The barbecue bag falls down, and the hand catches it. Then the arm goes down, and vanishes with bag and everything below the earth.
But the creepiest thing happens: Kimihiro can hear munching and crunching sounds. Someone, or something, is eating the meat.
The boys' mothers call them out, and tell them not to go so far, as a long time ago children used to mysteriously disappear in that park. Our hero wonders, not anymore?
It's evident the hand was behind all of that. It kidnapped children and ate them. Children with powers who could see it. That's my conclusion, of course.
The boy tells his friends about the hand, but nobody believes him and call him a liar. Watanuki ponders. Nowadays, there are less children who can see spirits. Not only that, they're weaker, they don't do so much physical exercise, they don't go to the swings. They had more habilities than material things.
But there are qualities that are better off lost, of course.
When Kimihiro leaves, the arm returns over the ground.
O________O
But first,

XDDD "Balthazar" would have been ever weirder, though, I agree...
And what a delightfully creepy episode! Poor Kimi, though, that must've been so sad. He needs to have a proper childhood, poor thingy. T_T At least he doesn't have evil relatives or anything... I haven't downloaded the scans yet (I want to do it in my own computer), but I bet he looks
like a mix of Eriol and Harryreally cute as a little boy.The arm thing is CREEPY! O_O

it's kind of Hogwarts-y. Maybe tonight I'll put a couple of scans of kid!Kimi.Actually, I lied. I called him Casper for the ghost thing from the beginning (it all started with

Now the question would be, is HOLiCworld the same world as Chobits/Angelic Layer/Kobato? I hope not! Maybe they're alternative characters, Tsubasa style.
Or we're giving it a lot of thought and the house just looks the same...
