I wish I were Shinji's cello
Today I watched Evangelion: Death and Rebirth. With that, I have seen everything I had to see on that anime. Now the manga, that's another story. One day I'll buy it all, I swear.
I can't believe nobody else but her has asked me to rant about anything! If yu want me to rant, please post here. Anything! Fandom wise or not, it doesn't matter (as long as it's not politics or economy, I'm oblivious on those topics)

Let's be honest: I can't see Watanuki with anyone on the series. From all the few choices we got, none convinces me. The only people that really seem to deeply love Watanuki are kitsune-chan and the Valentine spirit girl, and they're not humans XD Drat.
Is it possible, canon-wise? I'm afraid it is. Because
a) this is CLAMP, hello?
b) we're not sure about what the prediction meant with "tighten the link", or how the karmic mutual debts will develope
c) some of their dynamics are very Rikuou/Kazahaya (from Gohou Drug)
d) Shizuka rejecting all those girls is rather suspicious; Spanish version makes it worse: when he rejects the elder twin, he says "it can't be", and that sounds like he has his eyes on somebody else
e) when Doumeki says that he doesn't want anything to happen to Watanuki, let's face it, it sounded extremely slashy... even with the "who's gonna make me lunch then" ending phrase
f) some yaioers would justify kindergartener boys love to tease or annoy their crushes
g) some yaoiers would justify they already behave like a dysfunctional married couple
h) some yaoiers would justify they are rivals, they dislike each other and that's hot OMGBBQ!1!
i) there are illustrations and splash covers with D/W, but no Watanuki/Himawari or Doumeki/Himawari
And that without the material passed volume 4, which I don't understand. After the "Spirited Away spinoff" saga, here's a conversation between Yuuko and Doumeki when Kimihiro passes out. Imagine what could they talk about in private, so seriously, almost makes me shit myself.
What don't I like them together? It's not that I'm anti-slash, you know me. I so have Touya/Yuki and Sei/Suby as OTPs in their works. And I can certainly enjoy fics about friendly rivalries, like the mentioned Rikuou/Kazahaya (who are kind of the same crap) and Fye/Kurogane. Then why?
Well, I'd like them to become friends. Kimihiro has had a difficult life, and before the ghost stories incident, he didn't look like he had any buddies (except for "Casper", the ghost boy he met in his late childhood, and that's the proof I needed to point out he's an antisocial ["what? we are friends, really? O_O" well duh, you invited him to your place, dummy!]). So I think Doumeki would be an ideal comrade, even if they're almost opposite and they annoy each other: he can tell him everything, and Dou-kun really wants to understand and believes his strange stories. And even if the bespectacle boy is noisy, Shizuka has fun hanging around him, or at least he never gets bored. And they benefit from the other one: less monster attacks, more delicious food.
In short, more than romantic love, Kimihiro needs a strong friendship to get through. Someone he can trust. And I really want them to stay platonic, it's less complicated. Besides, assuming Dou-kun is gay and he's interested in Kimi that way, I seriously doubt Watanuki would return the feelings because I think he's too straight for that. He has never had a special reaction around him (not saying he should blush or anything, mind you). And like Elihice says, even if CLAMP seems to be forcing them to become the next Rikuou/Kazahaya, Watanuki's not cooperating at all. Also, I personally don't see any chemistry between them.
Besides, a special link from fate doesn't necessarily have to deal with love or sex... right?

I would say no, but this is CLAMP and I'm having RG Veda flashbacks...
About the rant itself, I agree completely. I'd love it if they just stayed friends, because I think that'd be a satisfying enough ending. It wouldn't *bother* me if they end up as a couple, though, but... I guess I just want to see a story that's not about romance for a change.
