Right, so...

After a sleepless night with the laptop being a bitch, and doing a fifth attempt this morning, now Soel has been upgraded to Ubuntu 6.06! Hey, look, and I had no need to twist things up for the graphics card to work!

So Dapper Drake has been pwned... sort of. I still can't get Linux to do things like I'd like it to since all the software and codecs and stuff can only be gotten from repositories. And since there's no wi-fi connection here, I don't even know if the laptop can even access the Internet, let along downloading upgrades.

Same old same old. Let us play mahjong solitaire, then.

Meanwhile, considering the manga keeps it going about characters I don't give a fuck about, and the anime fillers seem to be too cracktacular for me, I'm pulling the plug for Bleach. Well, not *entirely*, but I've defriended all Bleach comms and took my Bleach icons off. The series is boring me too much right now.

ditto on Bleach. boring, boring, boring.

It's amazing, but not even Urahara can save it (this week's chapter, I skimmed through the summary, and seeing Urahara in there did nothing for me.)

Heck, I think not even the Ishidas returning permanently won't make me like that testosterone mess Kubo is making.

I agree on the Bleach thing. It became so boring and there were so many new characters that I just couldn't continue on reading . There are a lot of new chapters I haven't read, and I doubt I will, really.

The only thing I hate/d is/was seeing it everywhere, on layouts, icons, communities, whatever. Jesus, it's irritating. Dunno if the Bleachmania is still so big than before, I left the fandom ages ago and I don't care about it anymore. With Naruto happened the same. Both are so bleh.

I don't understand the fascination with the new characters and the awful shounen-cliche plot devices. Even the characterization of the regular cast is so blah now.

The series was so good until the Soul Society arc ended. Hell, I'm not even buying the manga now because I don't want to stop the collection in half the story. And that makes me sad.

[identity profile] inouekun.livejournal.com 2006-06-28 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
So true. If the manga is like that now, I can imagine the trash the anime is with all the fillers. I personally don't like the new characters too. They are omgsocool for me.

For me, the series ended with the Soul Society arc. Good plot, nice characters, it even had me waiting anxiously for the Wednesday to arrive because it's more or less the day the raws are out. It would have been great if Tite just stopped the manga after SS, but the fans would have gone insane and then, disaster would have happened. My brother is buying the manga, and I told him that personally I wouldn't buy it for the same reason as you. and well, also because NANA and Ouran are published and I want to spend my money better on those two.

I think he could've killed Aizen and make a closure after the SS arc. Shounen manga tends to get bad if it's too long.

Ooh, will you lend me Ouran some day? I'm too broke to buy it D:

[identity profile] inouekun.livejournal.com 2006-06-28 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
True. Besides, I don't like Aizen. I think he's pretty boring. Look at me, now I'm evil and a bishounen! Buu.

Oh my, House icon ♥. And also I forgot telling you, but your Kyon icon rocks. Suzumiya Haruhi is with Ouran, the best series of this season.

But of course woman! No need to ask ^^

He doesn't even scare me. You know who scares me? Mayuri. Now THAT would be a creepy and sly antagonist.

I find Suzumiya a little bit too overrated, but I enjoy it greatly. Not as a cult thing, but as a cracky thing. And I lust for Kyon.

Thank you X33333

I simply have to concur with your thoughts regarding BLEACH. I'm more than 10 chapters behind when it comes to the manga and, incidentally, I think I do not particularly care about the influx of new characters as much as I'd like to. D: Over the past few months, my interest in the manga has waned considerably, if not almost completely. I sometimes find myself flipping through earlier volumes again and enjoying the story just as much as I did when I first read them, but the latest chapters don't weave the same magic. It's somewhat frustrating considering how much I adored BLEACH during the Soul Society arc.

The anime fillers do not arouse my interest, either. I've only watched about 5 or 6 episodes and gave up immediately after that. *sighs*

It is rather frustrating. And hell, I still love those V-Jump short comics because they have the old-fashioned Bleach magic plus some good crack, but I can't stay in a fandom just for the occasional omakes.

[identity profile] fujurpreux.livejournal.com 2006-06-29 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
I watched the first episode of the Bleach anime, and I didn't like it, so I went manga only.
I have to agree with you, the manga has been very, but very slow. I'm taking a break from it until september, then I'll see if the plot has moved a little. *pokes Bleach plot with a stick*
That's the problem with the neverending shonens. .-.

The anime used to be very good before the fillers, minor changes apart.

My problem isn't just with slowness -if it was, I'd do what you do-, but also because it's focusing in characters and battles I don't currently give a damn about. I know it sounds anal-retentive, but Kubo isn't doing anything for me to get emotionally involved with those characters and battles. And mind you, I used to like some of the usual guys, but they don't feel the same way.

I also get the feeling Kubo Tite only tosses the characters who do better in popularity polls for fanservice and fandom pleasing. But see, if he stops drawing the ones who aren't in the top twenty, then the fans will stop voting for them in the next polls, and Kubo draws them even less, and so on. It's a vicious circle.

[identity profile] fujurpreux.livejournal.com 2006-06-29 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand what you're saying. I believe one of the reasons the plot has slowed down (besides the fights) it's because of the new characters' screen time. There's been to many of them. I mean, a whole new bunch of new evil guys, and Ichigo and Orihime need to develop their skills, so they need new teachers. But that could've been achieved by just one for each, not a whole army! But the more action figures to sale, the better.
I really like this manga, because of the characters, and I'd hate it if Bleach acquirers the Dragon Ball Syndrome (protagonist's first friends entirely replaced by new and stronger characters). I'll drop for good it if that happens.

Personally, I'm a bit bitter by Ishida's absense. I mean, I know he's training with his dad and stuff, but just as we sometimes get back to Orihime and Chad's trainings, we could have more input on how Uryuu is hanging. Kubo just gives him five pages every six months or something.

But maybe it's just my own bias because he's my favorite character.

[identity profile] fujurpreux.livejournal.com 2006-06-29 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand where you're coming from. I dropped Death Note when they killed my favorite character; it could had ended there and it would had been been god, but no, they just kept going and going and going and I couldn't be arsed to feel a thing about the new kids.
I mean, not that I think that Kubo's going to kill Ishida, but the lack of one's favorite character does have a big impact on keeping one's attention.

...that sounds too academic-like... *sighs*

Funny you say that, because I also dropped DN after he died XDDDD

But really, I tried to give it a try (valga la redundancia) and I gave Near and Mello a chance, but... it just wasn't the same.

And after hearing about the crappy ending, I'm so damned glad I left that fandom.

Ditto.
In my little Bubble of Joy, Light ended up ruling the world with the iron fist of a psychopathic dictator until further notice.

By the by, have you hear something about the movie? I want to see it, if only to shut up the L fangirl in me.

I want to see it, too XD But I'm waiting for a subbed version to come out. An L-obsessed friend of mine was going to let me know when she hears something about it.

Still, I heard the movie also had a crappy ending. It's like, Raito/Light and L meet! Roll credits now and leave it open! WTF.

That's why I say one of my main goals it's to shut up my inner L fangirl after watching it. There's going to be a second part in november, I think. And, just because I have to say this to someone, Wikipedia says that there are plans for an american remake.

A friend gave me a very spoilerific fan review of the DN movie. Here it is, if you want to take a look at it.
