taotrooper: A baby pegasus eating grapes (Fantasia / I brake for grape)

...there was an unicorn?

I finished reading The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle last night. I watched the movie like two years ago and my memories are foggy now, but I do recall it was shiny and interesting. The book, actually, doesn't seem too different from what I remember, so that means the adaptation must've been that good. That's a new one. Well, no, an old one, but you get my point.

Of course, and it comes without surprise, I liked the book better because I have the feeling the movie probably couldn't play that much with the fairy tales meta and fourth wall-breaking, which is one of my favorite things about the novel and made me fangirl book!Schmendrick so much, but then again I could be wrong.

Actually, was Schmendrick's backstory and curse even in the movie? I can't recall, but my guts tell me he might've got the Eriol treatment (...literally).

I think I'm rewatching my illegally downloaded copy of the movie when I'm back home. And I'll buy the book if I ever find it somewhere.

The whole point for this post is: read the book :D It's pretty and sad and smart.

No, actually I'm lying, the other point is: Schmendrick/Molly OTP! ♥

ETA 1: [livejournal.com profile] kirarakim uploaded the main theme of the movie :D
ETA 2: I knew I shouldn't look for TLU stuff at Youtube. Not surprised to see so many Evanescence and Within Temptation and Linkin Park AMVs.

so much ♥ for both book and movie!

I don't remember Schemendrick having much of a backstory in the movie, beyond being pants at magic.

Me neither. Looks like he did get cut? Not surprised, because they had to fit the whole book anyway, and the main character is the unicorn/Amalthea. But hey, that way the book would be different so I like it that way anyway ^^

OOh I love that movie and book so much. I actually think I am a bigger fan of the movie but I think it is because I grew up on it and it was one of my favorites as a child.

Not sure if you would want this but since I had it I uploaded the opening song from the movie.

The torrent I got the movie from included the OST, but thank you ♥ Mind if I plug the file?

That is one good thing about downloading stuff. Sometimes you get things not even the actual DVD includes. :)

I can't believe people made Linkin Park AMV's to the Last Unicorn. Have they no shame?

Awesome. Now you just need to pick up a copy of The Line Between because it has the short sequel Tho Hearts. (And a lot of really good short stories.) Or you could just wait for the new hardcover edition of TLU that they are announcing soon as it is coming with the sequel included.
Neither Schmendrick nor Lir's curses are in the movie. However the adaption was pretty good because Beagle wrote the screenplay for it.

Thank you for the info! ^^ I'm not sure if I can import books right now, so I'll wait anyway. The British online store I buy my books at only has TLU from Beagle. Damn.

*goes and hunts an e-book version*

Even without the curses, the movie is amazingly faithful.

No problem. TLU is a childhood favorite, so I enjoy sharing info when I can. I forgot to mention that he also recently released The Last Unicorn: The Lost Version which is the original 80 page beginning of the story. There are some huge differences, like dragons and demon, and some passages, like the butterfly, which are remarkably untouched.

Amo el libro, amo la película, amo el soundtrack (en el que, por cierto, hacen un favor y Now That I'm a Woman no la canta Mia Farrow. >.>;;)

was Schmendrick's backstory and curse even in the movie?
No, no estaba, pero fue una sorpresa muy agradable cuando leí el libro (muchos años después de haber visto la película), porque le da una dimensión muy diferente al personaje.

Ah, y cada vez que veo/leo el reclamo de Molly hacia el unicornio porque no llegó cuando ella era una joven doncella, se me forma un nudo en la garganta. ;_;

Will do! But in a post of its own, because it's really going to be too long. ^^UUU
I'll begin as soon as I finish watching Dogma. :3

O sea, pobres bandas! Ellos no tienen la culpa! XDDD Así que ahora agarran a Within Temptation? Bueno... >_>; *le habían pasado un CD de ellos y medio que se le van las ganas de escucharlo*
