taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Vivi / best desert princess ever)
1. Friends cut time. I'm really sorry if it was your turn, guys. If I defriended you, one of these might be the reason:
→ Your account has been kind of dead for a while.
→ Your account is active, yeah, but I see no newer post lately, meaning you filtered me out and um. I guess that means you don't like me anymore?
→ I do like you, really, but there's something about your latest posts/comments that annoys me too much or reeks of arrogance, and telling you this would be too rude and might harsh your squee.
→ We have not talked in a long time, we've grown distant and strange.
→ I met you a few months ago and we never truly connected.

Um, I suppose we can discuss this, if you feel I made a mistake. Or if you weren't defriended but want to cut me, take the chance and do it now? Anyway, I rarely make flocked posts now so you're not missing anything if you wish to keep me. I use my flist more like a reading list, really.

2. Yuletide reveal! I wrote Somewhere between stories, a The Last Unicorn fanfiction. It's Schmendrick/Molly, post-novel, and my usual "just keep talking, you idiots" brand of dialog-centric writing. Funny story: I had a plot planned when I got my assignment, but I had no time to pull it out and wrote metatastic fluff instead. But it's cool, because this was what my recipient wanted. Even if it's chaotic I'm happy with it and it even had some feedback/rec.

3. I had something else to say, but I'll leave it to another post.

Oho!

...

......Not only I passed the English exam of suck. I was the highest mark in the class. WTFF. OH WELL, THAT'S PRETTY GOOD!

Anyway, before I leave to begin with finish German. We got out of class twenty minutes earlier, so I went to El Corte Inglés just to waste some time. Actually, I just wanted to see if there was a purple iPod Nano (what?), but I got distracted by the book section's shiny before I could, you know, get there.

They usually have the big features in a series of tables near the hallway. In one of the tables we had the youth section. Half of if was Twilight, of course, and that's not exactly new in El Corte. However, there was this sign that cracked me up:

STEPHENIE MEYER

Para todos los gustos estas Navidades.

(These holidays, we have for all tastes.)

Me: Yeah, including the really bad ones.

Just kidding. I don't hate nor care about Twilight. Anyway. There were also other vampire books next to them, perhaps to take the chance. But well, not everything was LOL FAD, of course. There were the usual hardcover His Dark Materials books, and the last installment of Inkheart (which made me think of Fujur), and there was Wicked (which made me think of Sha), and the great novelty: The Tales of Beedle the Bard. I was really tempted to get it, and perhaps I will one day. No, well, I was tempted to read almost anything from that table that wasn't Twilight, as a matter of fact.

I did buy something I saw on the shelves on my way out, though. ORZ.

A hardcover, deluxe edition of The Last Unicorn, bitches. It was pricey, and they charged me one euro more than they should've now that I notice, but I couldn't help it because it happened to include the sequel short story, Two Hearts. Squee OTP!

ARE YOU HAPPY NOW, MR. BEAGLE'S INTERNET LAWYER? I TOLD YOU I'D BUY THE BOOKS! THERE!

Okay, back to German.

I just read Two Hearts, which is the sequel for The Last Unicorn ♥ Of course, it's not as magical, and the ending is just painful because of poor Lir. Woe.

But still, I'm shameless and I loved it because Schmendrick and Molly are so canon and cute! It's just... damn, it's like one of the best canons I've had for a couple of mine, like, ever. I didn't expect it to be so in-your-face. Yeah, TLU's ending had some burning subtext -they leave together! by own choice! singing!-, but it skyrocketed to hypertext in this story.

a) Dude, it's been decades and they're still together travelling?
b) The touching and the embracing continue.
c) Endearing bantering, just how I like it. Molly is practical while Schmendrick lives in his little corner of dorky, masochistic weirdness that's what happens when you live a long time without aging; ask Clow and Eriol!.
d) MOLLY'S SPEEECH. She's all like "but sometimes I want us both to be immortal and shit so we could be forever like this D:" That's a NEON SIGN of canonness.
e) They're so married the narrator girl ships them!
Molly: you can't argue when he's like that ¬¬U
Sooz: but good wives don't argue their husbands :P
Molly: LOL! we're not married, we're just, er, together (<- actual word, says it twice)
Sooz: oh, but you look married
Molly: pft, I'm never marrying that dork, he eats in bed! XD
Schmendrick: *at Sooz* ^_~

No, really. It's just awesome for characterization and post-ending interaction. I think I'm obsessing over this pairing in an unhealthy way, but it's no surprise.
taotrooper: A baby pegasus eating grapes (Fantasia / I brake for grape)
I finished reading The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle last night. I watched the movie like two years ago and my memories are foggy now, but I do recall it was shiny and interesting. The book, actually, doesn't seem too different from what I remember, so that means the adaptation must've been that good. That's a new one. Well, no, an old one, but you get my point.

Of course, and it comes without surprise, I liked the book better because I have the feeling the movie probably couldn't play that much with the fairy tales meta and fourth wall-breaking, which is one of my favorite things about the novel and made me fangirl book!Schmendrick so much, but then again I could be wrong.

Actually, was Schmendrick's backstory and curse even in the movie? I can't recall, but my guts tell me he might've got the Eriol treatment (...literally).

I think I'm rewatching my illegally downloaded copy of the movie when I'm back home. And I'll buy the book if I ever find it somewhere.

The whole point for this post is: read the book :D It's pretty and sad and smart.

No, actually I'm lying, the other point is: Schmendrick/Molly OTP! ♥

ETA 1: [livejournal.com profile] kirarakim uploaded the main theme of the movie :D
ETA 2: I knew I shouldn't look for TLU stuff at Youtube. Not surprised to see so many Evanescence and Within Temptation and Linkin Park AMVs.
