holiday love meme 2012
my thread here

I did take a screencap at 12:12, but I liked my 11/11/11 geekery better. I was out this morning so this was my best attempt.

Brrrr. it's getting so fucking cold. Speaking of which, I watched Rise of the Guardians and I wasn't expecting a deep plot so I enjoyed it a fucking lot. Too bad the books are expensive here and I can't find illegal copies, since they look pretty cool.

And so this doesn't look too empty and depressing, I'll take the chance to make a list of stuff I want/need to buy this holiday season or next year.

Falalalalalalalala )

I also should go to my uncle's place to get my LOTR books (I remember shit from The Hobbit) and my manga. I really wanted to reread/rewatch the Matantei Loki series... Incidentally, it's weird that my reaction to what's happening at the sequel is all "but I wanted the adult Loki for a but longer!!1" when in Marvel is the total opposite. The status quo in both fandoms with kid Lokis is always against what I want, LOL. Meanwhile, I'm rewatching Princess Tutu for a third time and I'll probably read the original short story of The Nutcracker around Christmas time. I planned that last year and then I forgot, so I have it ready.

happy new year! ♥

So I checked my old posts from this time of the year, and striked the new year resolutions from 2010 that I accomplished. Wasn't much. So here are 2011's.

Repeating some )

Also, I kept a list of everything I read/watched/played on 2010. I liked this method to keep a record of stuff, I think I'm repeating it this year. So if you want to use this post to ask me about one of the items in the list, go ahead! :D
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Tear / must poke)
Welp, it's December now. Let's do this like every year.
1. Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

2. Surf around your f-list (or friends of friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it. You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call. There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

「 the RPG class meme 」

This year I MUST accomplish things. I really must. 2009 was a lethargic, depressing period, and I have many goals to fulfill this time. So here are my new year resolutions.

Shit must be done

    Academical/laboring

  1. Study hard and pass Object-Oriented Programming.
  2. Do your end-of-degree project and present it. GRADUATE ALREADY.
  3. After α and β, get a fucking job.
  4. Learn more programming languages. PHP, at least.
  5. Buy reference books for δ.

  6. Internet and fandom

  7. Be a better LJ friend/citizen. Stop being so shy and lurky; comment more, post more. It's not fun to be always a tsundere.
  8. Revamp and rebuild mercury retro. Make it sassy.
  9. Build at least one fansite or shrine.
  10. Do icons.
  11. Scan the rest of your Keterburgers doujinshi.
  12. Post about things you read/watch/play. Be funny again. Even if you must follow crazy ideas, such as youtube thursdays, or mythology wednesdays, or the return of monthly random polls.
  13. Regain your writing muse and make her sing.
  14. Buy a pen tablet and learn how to doodle. Hey, I never said I want to get good at drawing.

RENAME ME!

I've realized I don't know most of my flist well, and this is why I'm never able to comment on this kind of memes. I feel sad about it.

Ah, that seasonal meme.

And a partridge in a pear treeeeeee )

I wish I had the time these holidays to go through your lists and give you something, but I don't think I'll be able to even do those request icons before the year ends. Sigh.

I found this nifty gaming website called The Backloggery, and I made myself an account there. So my list of games I'm currently playing is here. I still need to add more games and rate everything, but most of the stuff for the consoles I own is there. At least the currents and the wishlist are up to date, and now I know what I'm playing right now.

And yay, I didn't know there was a third part of the Zelda parody The Real Legend! I loved this shit.

Will be doing the memes during the day or something.

So I said I wouldn't be doing a long list of resolutions because I never do them they bring me down. Instead of that, I'm compiling a list of things I must do or I wish to do during the year. Something particular, certain goals, not abstract stuff like "lose weight" and "get out more".

Let's see if I do better by thinking in terms of goals )

The Mushishi fansite is for real. I'm almost convinced I can pull it off as soon as I can get OS2 out of my system. The Spanish manga will be done this year (two volumes left, #9 is out on February), I have my DVDs, so all the canon -but the Otomo movie- will be within my reach in a matter of months. And I plan to shamelessly reuse some CSS from previous layouts I've done before. I'm sure I can do this!
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Peony the IX / a thorn in the throne)
...Oh now I get it! My titles looked weird because LJ programmers changed it for links. So, people with Flexible Squares, it's really easy to solve: just find (or create) .subject a and all variations of the a tag, and paste what you have for .subject in it. There's also a fix for Smooth Sailing, but I don't know the div names right now.

Anyway.

STEP ONE
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. [Note: Your home address is not required!]

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.

STEP TWO
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true.

There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

I doubt someone will read this )

There you go ^_^ Not listing the material wishlist because I already did. I'm making a post later today with a list of current favorite characters and couples, or at least things I'd like to find gifts/recs about.

ETA: Adding some suggestions. Oh, the shinies )

WISHLIST OF THINGS I *MUST* GET THIS CHRISTMAS

...Hmmmm. Nothing on this year's new fandoms. Maybe, I don't know, because I only like artbooks for merchandising and they're expensive, hard shit to get. I want artbooks for Gyakuten Saiban or Tales of Symphonia, but... yeah. And it's not like they bring non-Squeenix videogame merchandising to Galicia anyway.

Besides, I'm behind on manga shopping.
taotrooper: A wizard with a T-shirt that says "actually I am a rocket wizard" (Ponder / nerdy T-shirt)
So I got a call from the computer technician. Good news: he would be able to recover data from the hard drive. Bad news: it's all +100GB of music and video and ROMs and scans; none of it is the important files from the pre-laptop-reformat I had lost way before the disk died (university stuff, important txt's, Photoshop goodies, things like bookmarks or Windows fonts). Worst news: it's for 50 euros.

Okay so. I'm not paying 50 fucking bucks for cat macros and fandom stuff I downloaded for free, and especially not near Christmas. I mean, God, sure, I can't recall everything I had lost, in particular the manga and the galleries. And I bet most torrents I got my stuff from must be dead already, so maybe I'm dooming myself, but... que será, será.

Let this be a lesson for all: just because your HDD is huge, doesn't mean you mustn't burn your multimedia shit on CD/DVD frequently.

At least the episodes and the music are more or less easy to save because I was quick. Before my attempts to recover my important data, I wrote down a list of my music/video folders. The CDs one was mostly a screencap of the first tree folders, instead of a list of albums. So I'm writing down the artists I didn't have a backup of so I can hunt for them and redownload them.

Curious? A list of my perhaps bad music taste )

I'm not letting you know every anime/TV show I'm missing since I have guilty pleasures in there, but I can list the movies I had downloaded and didn't make backups of:

It's all animation )

ETA: Um. Guys, you know. I made the list so I could strike-through stuff as I'm getting them, and to make it easier for me. It's not a plead for you to upload me anything ^^U Especially movies, since Megaupload hates me with stuff over 300MB. I mean, it's really awesome of you to offer or tell me what you've got ♥ But, um. I don't know, I feel kinda like I'm abusing and that I should hunt for these things on my own. *is too awkward about this sort of things*
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Isaac & Miria / loving the insanity)
I shouldn't won't be able to check them out soon because I do have an exam on the 10th, but here it goes. Recommend me anime, manga, TV shows you think I might like. No matter how old they are. Mind you, I might even prefer old stuff to boring new series. Hell, if you want even throw series you don't think I might like anyway but you love a lot. This is your chance to poke me or change my mind on things.

The only restriction is length. When it comes to shounen or American TV, please don't rec lengthy, ongoing fandoms. Right now I'm looking for autoconclusive series. Long manga is fine, though, but notice I've already given a chance to several long Jump series I ended up dropping out of boredom (Bleach, DGM, KHR).

My preferred genres are comedy, supernatural, fantasy, historic/mythological, suspense, horror, or just quirky crap. I prefer interesting plots or characters over prettiness of animation/actors. I will accept romance as long as it's set in one or more of the genres above girls crossdressing is guilty pleasure; if it's BL I'm not taking seme/uke stereotypes, if it's het or yuri I won't enjoy mushy saccharine (and in any, I won't like abusive couples or hatesex). Anyway, in doubt there's a list of fandoms I loved in my profile. Or just ignore it and throw things at me.

List of stuff I plan to watch/read after final )

The weather is so lovely today I went and took a walk around the zone. I mean, I've been living here for over a year, and still hadn't checked anything but the supermarket and the sucky video rental out. And mind you, we have a park and a beach nearby (I kinda dislike beaches, though). And I need exercise. So after school I put on some comfy sneakers and decided to take advantage of a day in which I wouldn't have to wear a jacket to go out~

My mp3 player (called Watanuki, incidentally) decided to collaborate, and as soon as I left the house it started playing the happy-go-lucky One Piece folder in all its J-pop glory. ADEQUATE. I'M GOING ON AN ADVENTURE *___*

It was pretty neat. Green grass. Tiny flowers. Birdies singing and flying. Tall and small trees. Smell of the ocean. Sound of the waves. Wooden tables to walk over the sand without entering the beach. Wooden benches to sit on. People on bikes and motorcycles. People taking out their dogs -there were these ladies with a black retriever and a dalmatian, so cute.

It was relaxing. I felt like smiling just because.

**********

Sometimes I mourn the fact I'm not suited for drawing and painting, that I didn't inherit that ability from mom. There are days in which I have ideas for characters that I could only express correctly in fanart. Some things, some frames, some concepts just can't be reproduced with words, because they're not thoughts or stories or dialogs. It's too visual to be described verbally, and usually there's no point to invent a tale to include it as a scene -most times it isn't one.

I'm not sure whether I'm envious of good (fan)artists or not. I want those images out of my system, but even if I were good at it I'm too lazy to do that. I do feel jealous at people who have fanartist friends and can convince them to draw the ideas for them. It's petty, but my stuff is usually too minor or subjective to see it in fanart as I want to, so unless a Japanese fanartist for it exists I'll rarely see my characters or pairings come to art unless they're popular.
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Yuuko / ♥)
Greatest way to wake up the first day of vacations: My package finally arrived! So now I'm the proud (?) owner of the first FMA manga artbook and a Slayers one~~

I'll make a list of the artbooks I own for the heck of it:

  • CLAMP - X Zero
  • CLAMP - X Infinity
  • CLAMP - Hiten Muma (RG Veda)
  • CLAMP - North Side
  • CLAMP - Cardcaptor Sakura Art Book 2
  • CLAMP - Soel to Larg: Mokona Modoki no Bouken (...it's half artbook?)
  • Arakawa Hiromu - Fullmetal Alchemist
  • Araizumi Rui - Slayers Dra-mata

As you see, I don't have a lot of artbooks, but they're still a lot. North Side and the CCS one are the Spanish edition, which are smaller than my Japanese ones but the notes are translated.

On a sidenote, I can't recognize even half of the background people at the Dra-mata XD It makes me wonder which ones I'll remember with a TV series marathon, which ones I'd understand if I watched the movies/OVAs or read the manga series, and which ones would remain an enigma because they're from the Special novels. Confession time: I do have some movie/OVA on CD. I've just never gave a rat's ass for the Naga part of the canon, because I'm too used to Lina having cute, (usually) caring friends, and I fear her past with Naga as associate wouldn't feel like Slayers to me. So I'm not sure I want to poke that canon with a ten-foot pole... does that make me a bad fan?

The Hagaren one is just shiny familiar stuff ♥
taotrooper: Plastic toy aliens stare at you in wonder (LOL aliens!)
[livejournal.com profile] iconzicons' Choose Your Own Adventure cover icons are hilarious XD In the end I chose this one because as you all know, I think aliens are LOL (when they're not predating my childhood traumas of abduction). So, GIP!

Speaking of LOLaliens, you know, the Tokyopop translation of Duklyon is still less gayer than the Norma one. I guess the Spanish translators were considerably more stoned/drunk when they did that manga.

Also, I watched The Girl Who Leaped Time. That movie is quite awesome. I love how the consequences to time traveling kept piling on, bringing new issues whenever she tried to fix her mistakes. Makoto was a very real teenager, cute and awkward. It's a pity about Chiaki/Makoto D:

The other day I watched Enchanted and it was fine, but I was more amused at the lampshading on the Disney clichés than the story itself. I almost peed myself at this part XDDD

Ah, I forgot to post a holidays wishlist D: And I was too shy to post at posts on my flist for presents. So I guess I'll only have my Yuletide piece this year because it's so late. Anyway, if you have posted a wishlist, pass me the link ^^ Maybe I can do something for you before new year's.

Wishlists are GO! )

Seeing my last year's list is hilarious, because I got several of that stuff but during the year instead. I did get the Zelda game for Christmas. The translations were actually done. I did get a NDS for my birthday. My FMA artbook is on the way. I bought a new mp3 player a while ago.
