It's confession time. You know, when you live your childhood and adolescence in a third world country in which the Internet as we know it didn't exist, you normally only have contact to the anime you get from watching TV -cable or normal. Fansubs in VHS were hard to buy and normally a rip-off anyway. And most of the anime broadcasted in national TV is either the kids shows or the Epic Anime Shows with at least 100 episodes -normally even larger. And well, no matter how much you liked (or not) this mainstream stuff, there'll always be arcs so craptacular you want to run the hell away from the series (hi Freezer! how many fanboys did you annoy with the Namek destruction, I wonder?). But in the end you shut up and continue watching because hey, there's nothing else on TV anyway.

Sailor Moon anime was my guilty pleasure (which had a dub based on the Japanese, but with the retarded American names). I can't really say I'm a closet fan, even though I watched the whole thing sometimes out of TWS, because I never grew too attached to any of the characters. Then again, it might be because of the exaggerated anime characterization.

I've only read the first arc in manga, and I probably should read the rest just to see what many fucked up things I can come across. At least the characters seem more likeable and less over the top. For instance, I remember Makoto and Minako being particularly annoying in the anime, but I don't see any of that in the manga so far.

But that's not really the point of this post... I never shipped anything, obviously. But now that I poked the Internet around, I think I found out a pairing I can subscribe to in their manga version.

...Shit, I know I have a thing for shipping the mentors together, especially if it's canon, but this is ridiculous.

..............It's Artemis/Luna. *hangs head* I'M SHIPPING THE FUCKING CATS.

In my defense, I've always been fond of the cats mixed with sympathy because boy, did they have to mentor a couple of bimbos in the anime, and I LOLed hard when Diana appeared to parallel Chibiusa and they went "HO SHIT WE TOO?!" And I find Artemis' methods for training people extremely awesome (LOL arcade). Also, at least I ship something in the same species?

Furthermore, what I found out last night: Their human forms

Askjdfhjkshfk whut. But. But. BUT! Why on Earth do they look hotter than the main characters?! Luna is so pretty, man. And hell, I'll be honest about Artemis: I'd hit that. Even if his shirt has the most ridiculous, fanservice-y cut ever.

This is crazy. I shall get back to work right after checking this subgallery out. I'm seriously messed up and shaken. They're too cute.

Artemis is male, WTF?!

hear, hear about DBZ ^^ I could have done with less fights lasting for 50-100 episodes.

Yeah, the name is fucking confusing because duh, but the white cat in SM was always a male even before it was revealed he mated with the black cat in the future.

I think it's a case of the mangaka going "so it's a goddess name, but who cares, it sounds cool :DDD"

I never got into Dragon Ball unless it's for point and laugh, because it just cracks me up. So does Saint Seiya; it's so melodramatic and gay I'm always giggling during the "tension" moments instead of feeling bad for the characters XD Old shounen are fucking funny.

haha, I LOVED saint Seya, it's so stupid and melodramatic and full of bishes, and they spend more time discussing than fighting, and even when they fight it's mostly ridiculous sounding attack names, so great! XDDD

I liked DBZ for the funny, crackful moments between the fights. There were more of them in the beginning of the serie, and then occasionnally. The manga reads much better too.

They're broadcasting SS at Cartoon Network here at midnight, and sometimes I watch it for fun. When I was little, I refused to watch it because I was in the not-boys-stuff phase. Which is now ridiculous when looking back, considering SS is the shoujo-est shounen ever made XD

I also watch Dragon Ball Z reruns as well. I LMAO at the premises.

I've downloaded five volumes of the DB manga. I've always thought the early Toriyama comedy could amuse me, as a matter of fact. I can probably read it better without the filler glares-and-punches, although it's not that mockable. Actually, probably all the old series that were hip during my childhood can read better in manga anyway (hah, I want to read Saint Seiya in manga, the art looks even gayer)

I think I should just read these three oldies (DB, SS, and BSSM) for the lulz.

[identity profile] bramblyhedge.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the cats look so much better in human form than the actual humans. XD And they're very cute together - the whole awkwardness of "oopsie we have a kitten together in the future" is funny.

I went and rewatched the first episode with Diana on Youtube, while I can't read the manga, and the anime made it soooo soap-opera awkward and made poor Luna look like an outraged housewife bitchslapping her husband. Dayum, anime!Luna is so agressive I wouldn't stick to her if I were Artemis. I hope the manga did it way better. Then again, manga!Luna seemed nicer than her anime counterpart in the first arc, and manga!Artemis felt smarter.

[personal profile] pleonasm 2007-05-22 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Sailor Moon has been on my mind lately, strangely enough. I ship those cuties too.

...There's at least one episode in living memory when... I think it was Usagi... changed Diana into a human form for some specific reason... I don't remember too well because the show went off the air in the US about eight years ago and finding the anime/manga is next to impossible... But yeah, those pics are certainly canon. Maybe in some sort of futuristic scenario, I'm thinking...

They are cute, both forms. ^^

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
My google-fu says it was a movie, and Luna had a crush on a random human dude (but I'm not sure if this is filler or it came from the manga) and posed as Kaguya-hime. In the manga, though, the cats could transform for plot reasons -like saving Minako, or a random bad Senshi messing them up. I'll have to read the manga because I'm curious now (I was curious already about the original version, anyway)

Yup ^^ Weirdly enough, Artemis kinda looks like Yue a little bit O.o I think it's the long hair and the white outfit.

[personal profile] pleonasm 2007-05-22 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely the hair. ^^

Ah, yes, the movie. I probably watched that at some point. And I do remember the cat transforming once to help Minako... hmm, I'd better dig out my old manga later... I only have the series with Uranus and Neptune because they're the most interesting to me.

[identity profile] paper-seagulls.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That was one of the bad things about the Sailor Moon anime. They never gave the cats their human forms. (Except that movie with Luna... but they screwed it all up.)

I was way too into Sailor Moon back in the day...

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
So the movie was a non-manga filler, then? Good, no threats to the couple *is kidding*

I only watched the anime for the sake of it when I was a preteen, but I've been curious about the manga for a while since it seems so different. Besides, mahou shoujo originals aren't that draggy with the transformations and the poses. I should finish it when I'm more free.

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
There was a manga version of that movie, but it was produced in accordance to the movie so I'm not sure how canon it would be considered.

Luna's character design is imho one of the prettiest in the series.

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
...And in the English dub of (of horror), Luna sounded like a stereotypical fifty year old librarian (shush, it's a library!). So it was effing weird when she turned into this extremely attractive young woman.

Mmmmm, I see. Thanks for the info ^^

She's so, so cute. It even makes me want to icon Sailor Moon, even if Takeuchi's art is a bit too sparkly to what I'm used to *normally doesn't makes icons from the excessively sparkly, flowery CLAMP bishoujo art unless she really has too :P*

Hahahaha, dub casting is so weird XD I think the Mexican Sailor Moon dub gave normal yet adult voices to the mascots, unlike Card Captor Sakura *shudders* But hey, they had kinda!robot!Alphonse, so anything is possible.

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Takeuchi's art is really beautiful, but yeah it's extremely sparkly.

Robot!Al?

Our CCS dub made Kero sound like a surfer dude. His voice drove me up the wall.

Y ewww, Gohan XD

:D STFU! EWW. Fay no tiene la culpa. Es un mero instrumento, él

Hey, I think most of our generation in Latin America watched Sailor Moon. XD I kept watching it even after I stopped liking it, because I wanted to know how it ended, but the Sailor Stars things was too WTF for me and I gave up around then. And I always shipped the cats, hehe.

I remember seeing Luna's human form somewhere (... on a magazine, I think?) but I didn't know the others had human forms too. Artemis is far too girly for my liking though, and I'm sooo glad that I dind't have to be the first to mention the name thing. Also, he reminds me of someone.

The human form makes Artemis watching Minako bathe about a million times creepier, though.

Oh God, I gave up on making sense of it during the Pegasus saga. I guess I was more easily squicked at the time, because not even with that pegasus prince having a "bishie" form and Rini/Chibiusa being 3874 years old I could stand the sight of that couple. Too many buttons that crap pushed. And the circus-themed villains were just bizarre. And the pwning sequence during the battles was like two solid minutes of recycled animation between the bell calling and the Sailor Moon attack. I kept watching, but it went downhill, and then there was a sailor for everything, and it was so weird I can't even remember the series' ending. WHAT.

People wonder why I embraced shounen and didn't watch girly anime for at least four years. Damn.

In the Artemis Fowl series, the main character is also a male, but they had an explanation for that (not that smart, but it was something beyond "it looks cool!") DOESN'T HE? Myth!Artemis was a -lunar- goddess *cough* I kind of want to find out who copied who, but Takeuchi does draw a lot of long-haired albino guys and Nekoi really fancies that dress cut on angel-like beings, so it probably means nothing. Even if they're both Nakayoshi mangas. After all, let's count the number of shounen characters with spiky hair and genki attitude... I do find him pretty, but I like androgynous guys sometimes again, Yue.

...Good point, eww D: Although I'm not sure if he bathes with her in the manga. Maybe it can count as an anime thing and let it be? *hasn't read the Sailor V manga*

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I missed a lot of the Pegasus saga because I was moving at the time (from Chile to Buenos Aires) and the schedules were different in both countries, so I learned about that WTF later. I gave up when I couldn't figure out if they were girls-pretending-to-be-boys or boys-pretending-to-be-girls but either way they had Magically Growing Boobs. What.

Even if it's a good case of the lolz, I blame it on the "lots of manga/anime characters look alike" thing. Like those main characters from the '80s who ALL look like Rick Hunter.

I heard those ones were supposed to be crossdressing girls like Haruka (Sailor Uranus; by the way, why didn't the Outer Scouts get a name change?!) but still pretended to be a boyband in the manga. I assume the anime executives thought they had enough lesbians in the cast hitting on the main character, and went with the genderfuck thingie? Dunno. It's confusing.

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I think (keyword: think) that what happened is that they bought only the first season from the American company and the rest came directly from Japan. That's why we also got Zoycite, or whatever they spell it, as a woman (zOMG, mi first slash OTP and I didn't even know it!).

But I can't remember where I read that so I'm not sure if that's what really happened.

Yeah, Diana totally has a Chibi Chibi-like hairdo, and so does Luna. Probably Takeuchi was tired of coming up with hairdoes at one point... XD

[identity profile] piratelicker.livejournal.com 2007-05-23 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
well I had the luck to have the manga officially translated over here, so SM manga was pretty much my first local purchase.

I'm not sure which came first, the manga or the movie... but Kaguya Hime storyline is in book 11 of the manga. The storyline was written by Takeuchi??? The only thing I'm sure of was she designed the look of the villianess (Kaguya Hime) since there are notes on the design in the manga atogaki.

anyway, in the later parts of the manga it was revealed that the cats are actually aliens from a some planet where they had the ability to morph between human and cat forms. EVERYONE WAS ALIENS AT THAT POINT EVEN PHOBOS & DEIMOS!! Phobos and Deimos was from some planet where ppl had bird forms~!!!!
