Color me exhausted
What a tiresome week. And I still have to survive today's lab classes, and tomorrow's dentist. I'm so, so tired I've forgotten to reply in so many posts, and I can't even say witty things to the arguments brought on my last post.
Oh the slightly brighter side, I've found ideas to work for one of the Yuletide requests. I'll just need to, um, reread all the manga and find the time to write it. I feel torn because I can either write a character study in a character who's awesome but rarely mentioned in fic (...I guess, I haven't poked the fandom enough), or write crazy postcanon shenanigans for a pairing that's lots of fun. Each option is glee-worthy, but the genfic is more fleshed out in my mind right now.
And now a quick rant about squicks, inspired by something that came up in the last post. I have squicks, yes. I have perhaps too many squicks if you think about it. But when it comes to my pairings, I discover there are a few that would make a lot of people roll their eyes or go WTF.There are several adult-in-kid-disguise/adult (or teen). There's that wolf/humanoid one. Right now I'm rereading The Two Towers at the moment, and I remembered I've always sort of liked Legolas/Gimli in the books. How come I don't find any revolting, some might say? Dude, I don't find them kinky, either! They don't turn me on, I never go looking for porn of these unconventional ones (in physical age or differences of species) because, as a matter of fact, I wouldn't stomach them either as they are. The issue here comes from the fact that at least I ship personalities instead of looks, and in my personal fanon these characters would love the other because of what's in the inside, not implying a physical deviantion. I'm a romantic, and prefer the idea of love/friendship turned love/inner trait attraction than, say, lust via fetish. That's how I pair people up, regardless of age, gender, race, species, position, whatever.
It's probably too cheesy, but I want to believe Kaho dates Eriol because he has a fascinating yet shy mind, and that Ushiwaka cares about Amaterasu because he admires her deeply and wants her to trust him, and that Legolas and Gimli travel together for a while because they have fun together in this innocent, orc-killing way and don't give a damn about the huge cultural (and height?) difference.It might be a naive and too open-minded approach to think in such an idealized way of loving, in a world wide web where porn is the reason to ship. But honest, I don't want to see any fanwork higher to PG-13 for these ships, really. I have other multiple normal ships to perv on, so I have no need for sexually-oriented pedophile or bestiality. Give me gen, give me platonic romance, give me anything else! I swear I don't pair people up for squick factors. I'm just too open-mindedly naive.
ETA: I forgot to say. But sexier stuff with adult!Eriol|Clef|Loki|Heimdall or human!Amaterasu? BRING IT, SURE THING.
