Webmistress blues

This morning, I was considering to put Kimihiro.net in an official hiatus. Like, making a splash as the front page and announce it formally, as I haven't touched the fansite in over a year.

What I want to do (in theory) is waiting for the series to end, and THEN updating the character profiles and making full-length summaries. With all these pauses I can't recall most of the things they've said by now. Also, I get the feelings I must make sections with Tsubasa to explain WTF is happening, and I ain't touching that one-eyed (pun intended) monster until all the Watanuki-related TWISTS!1! are revealed throughout both series.

Yet now I see we're getting more Hiatus Of Doom in the magazine (you know the type: stopping it until they're caught up with TRC's current mindfuck in order to crossover) during most of July and possibly all of August. At this pace, I'll be pretty much forsaking the poor site for years if I wait for CLAMP.

There's also the fact I have to collect all information and download goodies about Kei. I never made an anime gallery, either. And to be honest, I'm dreading the whole thing because I'm not giving a damn. I'm not even looking forward to the OVA. I don't want my site to look so... with so many anime sections. Like, 1) movie, 2) first season, 3) second season, 4) OAD. But I have to make it complete or I'd feel bad about it. /thoughts on yaoi HOLiC anime

tl;dr: So, I don't know what to do about the fansite. With the anti-climatic way the serialization is going, I'm not feeling so enthusiastic about the series to have the website updated and complete, or at least not until the manga ends (which will be around when TRC ends, let's be honest). And I give a fuck about the anime. Any thoughts? What would you do? Should I just put a hiatus note to say all the info is obsolete until further notice?

I might be just bitter and jealous they were able to get Madhouse to animate fucking Acid Tokyo, and this manga-based HOLiC anime feature is still stuck with Production I.G's fugly-as-hell skillz
But, but... Tsubasa TOKYO REVELATIONS was also P.I.G.'s, not MADHOUSE XD (in fact, with the exception of HOLiC's anime director, the staff in TTR and HOLiC OADs is pretty much the same). I must admit sometimes, specially in the second OAD, the character designs were deformed with their animation style, but apart from that I don't have any complains, they did a really good job in my opinion. With xxxHOLiC and xxxHOLiC · Kei TV, not so much (in the character design and animation departments, the general feeling of the series is still ok if we exclude Kohane's arc ^^u).

En serio no era de Madhouse? Ya hice el ridículo otra vez por confundir las cosas D: Supongo que como se veía bien la primera (que fue la que vi), se me olvidó que era de P.I.G

I still find the characters in Kei so goddamned ugly when I see the screencaps, though. I'd have hopes for an OAD, but... in Midsummer's Night Dream they looked even worse. I mean, probably you're right and they'll do it well this time, but I guess I don't trust them anymore with anything HOLiC. No one can't animate Yuuko well all the time, not even Madhouse.

ETA: Ah, y supongo que puede ser que Crossed sea más fácil de llevar no por la serie en sí (si te soy sincera, Tsubasa me confunde MÁS que HOLiC y se me olvidan más cosas), sino porque vosotros sois dos y yo soy sólo una. Aunque considerando que también llevan un fansub y una pila de proyectos más, tal vez sea una excusa vacía ^^;;;

Don't worry about that little mistake ^^

In my opinion, the problem with xxxHOLiC's art is that it looks so well and unique in the manga, but it's difficult as hell to translate into anime. Long extremities, tall bodies and pale skins look so artistic and ukiyo-e like in paper, but when you animate it the best you can get is a bizarre, strange look ^^u

(I just thought it'd look better with SHAFT's style XD The ones that did Sayônara Zetsubo-sensei... it'd be weird, but kind of cool, I guess XD).

True, but Kurogane and Fay are also not that far in TRC, and yet they can be adapted well. I think the character designers shouldn't try to make the HOLiC crowd exactly like the manga counterparts. With a normal body build and keeping the faces/hairs, it could still work. They do it in other adaptations all the time. they can take liberties in hair colors and yet they keep the anorexia? fail

(oh, actually that doesn't sound bad at all! the teacher and his family are already spot on Watanuki XDDD)

You know I didn't even realize you had this site. I knew you had a site for your fan listings but not one specifically for XXXholic (maybe because I am not a fan.) It's ashame you have to close the site down since it is a really nice site and especially nice that you wrote everything in Spanish & English. I guess you can still keep it up as an archive right?

This is a random question but how common is it to be bilingual in Spain? That skill here will get you a lot of jobs. And Spanish is especially important in the US because of the all the immigrants from Central & South America.

Oh nonononono! Not closing! The hell I'll be closing it. I just want to stop updating it until the manga is finished (because it's getting too complicated and vague to make small updates so often, and I'm a lazy bum). THEN I'd be able to make, for instance, solid character profiles and stuff. The series is now crossovering too much with Tsubasa (to the point the main character's backstory is popping up in the other manga instead of his protagonic canon) and it's getting more complicated.

Actually, almost everyone in Spain considers themselves bilingual. Except that second language is SELDOM English or any, you know, tongue you can speak outside of the goddamn country. It's a bit like the UK, where Scotland and Wales have their own regional language. So in most regions, people speak both "Castillian" (aka Spaniard Spanish) plus the useless tongue of their ancestors (Catalan in Catalonia, Gallego here in Galicia, Vasco in Basque Country, and so on). And like Welsh, they try to impose it everywhere so it doesn't die. My COLLEGE DOCUMENTS are all in Galego with no translation to Spanish and it drives me nuts.

Funny enough, the majority of Spaniards (almost all people in LJ knows their stuff, but we're a minority as RL/Internet population) suck balls in English or just don't care enough to learn beyond the primary school basics. But surely it's pretty big in your CV to have English knowledge (at least business English) in Spanish-speaking countries (not only Spain; actually, it's even almost required in Latin America and the level there is higher). Maybe you don't know it, but the international business language around the world IS English.

[identity profile] kirarakim.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah I see well I am glad you are keeping the site. I mean I think it is a really nice fan site for the information it does have even if you don't update it more. What you could do is make some updates up to this point and say there won't be anymore updates until the manga finishes.

Maybe you don't know it, but the international business language around the world IS English.

Well I do know this or at least it makes sense, I mean in most other countries the second language people learn tends to be English. It is also definitely the scientific language now where even people in different countries will publish their articles in English to get more readership.

I was actually an International Business major for my undergraduate degree but since my language skills suck (took French & Spanish) I didn't stick with it.

Well that's good then, I mean I know you want to go into Web Design but I think even in that field being bilingual can be useful.

Edit: And I didn't know that about the dialects that's interesting. Well I suppose I can understand why it is frustrating but I also understand not wanting a language to die.

I only mind the regional languages when people who favor them act like douchebags (just like in the UK, the really radical ones see their region as their NATION... except that in GB they are nations and in Spain they're, uh, not really TBH). I find irritating that I speak to someone in Spanish, and they KNOW Spanish, and yet they reply in Galego to me. Even if they know I'm an immigrant and there's no indication I actually speak their fucking language fluidly. (I don't, by the way. I understand just a few little things.) I've been told by others that in Galicia there are even more jerks than other parts regarding that.

Yup, English's also the science/technology language. And I really have no idea if I'll be able to get into the Web Design field (translating info for a client's website would be sweet), but in my career (Computer Science/Information Technology) English is a must. Programming languages and OS commands are English words, and all the trendy techie stuff is in English. Not that it means that IT Engineers in Spanish actually SPEAK English, mind you. If my faculty is any indication, they're bullcrap and pretty much screwed. Even professors can't pronounce words correctly.

I think the best way to go is your idea of putting it on hiatus and warn it'll stay that way until the series ends and/or CLAMP gives enough info to complete what you've got. It's not like you can do much with the way things are going now, even with your best effort.

The worse part is that I had the Tsubasa crowd listed just as a special brand of Yuuko's clients. Now I'd have to add Li Jr. and whatever TWIST!1! it turns out to be his relation with Watanuki, since that's Extremely Important. Also, all those other 42387623 prices the group had paid Yuuko for deus ex machinas.

Well the most important thing is to have fun. Don't force yourself to do anything with it out of a sense of duty.

You're right. The thing with fansites is that it ends up being a bit of a chore, and that's when the fun diminishes.

Maybe that's why I want to wait until HOLiC/Tsubasa ends? I'd be so filled with emotions afterwards, it'd be better to canalize that energy then instead of right now when I'm feeling apathetic towards the fandom.
