Ya veo porqué se llama cacao... CACA-o

[Poll #1362706]

My family tried it today for the first time, and we all agreed in consensus that it's absolutely gross. None of us could even swallow it, many of us cried manly tears caused by the bitterness. Y so bitter, cocoa?! Needless to say, we didn't like it.

ETA: Object of the trauma. I'll also add that I tasted it without knowing it was 99% cocoa. It was like "hey Chris, we got fancy chocolate, have a square!" AND SUDDENLY, BITTER. Sons of a bitch.

I love it. Bring on the darkness! But this is an acquired taste, like black coffee and dark beer. After your taste buds get used to dark tastes without sugar and milk, your taste buds can start tasting a kind of sweetness that is in bitter things. It's weird. But it's also a lot less calories without all the milk and sugar.

It makes great hot chocolate. Just melt it with some water to make a liquid, then add lots of whole creamy milk and sugar. ^_^

A bar like the one you pictured is not the same as baking chocolate, which has no fat and therefore does taste a bit like feet... or something.
