Ya veo porqué se llama cacao... CACA-o

[Poll #1362706]

My family tried it today for the first time, and we all agreed in consensus that it's absolutely gross. None of us could even swallow it, many of us cried manly tears caused by the bitterness. Y so bitter, cocoa?! Needless to say, we didn't like it.

ETA: Object of the trauma. I'll also add that I tasted it without knowing it was 99% cocoa. It was like "hey Chris, we got fancy chocolate, have a square!" AND SUDDENLY, BITTER. Sons of a bitch.

Unless that shit has some sugar in it, cocoa is nasty.

It is D: They deceived me into trying it, also. I was expecting normal, sugared chocolate when SUDDENLY, FEET IN MY MOUTH.

Yeeeeaah. I had that same problem once at a nice restaurant when I was younger - I ordered chocolate cake, not expecting it to be pure cocoa.

I usually roll with 70%. I tried 80 or 85% once and didn't like it much.

[identity profile] tohru-saien.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ditto. 80% is as high as I go. Why, I happen to have a 70% bar with cocoa nibs in it on my desk. The nibs crunch like pencil lead :P

I love dark chocolate but yeah that is a little bit too high of a percentage for me. XD

Awww. I love it. XD

Hmm, now that I think about it, I don't know id it's the same I tasted. I have to do my research. XP

99% is just plain disgusting to me.
TOO BITTER :/

I'll take my sweet milk chocolate over that any day. :D

I love it. Bring on the darkness! But this is an acquired taste, like black coffee and dark beer. After your taste buds get used to dark tastes without sugar and milk, your taste buds can start tasting a kind of sweetness that is in bitter things. It's weird. But it's also a lot less calories without all the milk and sugar.

It makes great hot chocolate. Just melt it with some water to make a liquid, then add lots of whole creamy milk and sugar. ^_^

A bar like the one you pictured is not the same as baking chocolate, which has no fat and therefore does taste a bit like feet... or something.

[identity profile] woodburner.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
Highest concentration I"ve ever had was 85%, and wow, that was intense. "Gross" wouldn't be the word I'd use, but it's not something I'd ever choose as a snack, that's for sure.

[identity profile] amorphic.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
I can hardly stand 70%, let alone 99%. I'll only have 70% if I'm in the mood.

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I like dark chocolate, but I think I never tried anything over 70%.
