ETA: Okay, so. Color me confused.

Because this is Kuninushi, Susano and Kushi(nada)'s canon son. Kuninushi.

And this is the Doctor's new companion.

It's not the same kid. He even looks more like a human Issun with a different haircut (Izumo style, even, matching Susano's fashion). Now, physically this can't be the same character. Plus, the magazine calls him Nakatsukuni. So I'm confused as hell. Who is this kid? Where's the info in Famitsu backing up that this is Susano and Kushi's son? Is it even in the magazine, or did someone mistraslated an opinion on 2ch? Perhaps Kuninushi is this guy's little brother? Or did they ditch Kuninishi from canon because he was too ugly for LIEKOMG CHIBITERASU's cute? I HAVE NO IDEA. WHAT IS THIS I CAN'T EVEN.

Though most likely they just changed the original son's character design.

I'd rather hope they had more than one than seeing how they butcher real canon and disrespecting designs made by Clover. I might not care about the character, but I liked how the kid looked so much like Susano. Prettifying him is kinda weird and Stu-licious.

Honestly, it really isn't a big deal that they changed his character design. That happens all the times with game sequels. Characters get redesigned all the time to be more appealing for various reasons, usually to fit the new graphics the game is for.

But there's so little info on this game that I don't think we should be jumping to conclusions based on the roughly translated rumors. He could very well just be a totally different character.

I'm betting that this is an entirely new character--one who isn't all too human, judging by his name. "Nakatsukuni" was the name given to the land in between Takama no Hara (i.e., the Celestial Plain) and Yomi no Kuni (Hell), so this new boy might actually be a symbol of Japan or the Earth. (Seriously, though, I haven't seen anything backing up the information that this kid is Susano and Kushinada's son.)

You know, actually? My mistake XP The new trailer does have this kid called Kuninushi. In my boggling, I went and checked on the Okami fanbook (not the artbook), which has the translated names of stuff. And Nakutsukuni? That's the original name of "Nippon". I just never realized it could be a place, since the characters' names are all in katakana while most places were normally in kanji.

So. Oops. And goddammit.

I noticed, too. It really did seem strange for someone to be called
Nakatsukuni, but then I thought that the game could be a metaphor for the creation of Japan or something like that, and it started sounding better, and then--you know what happened.

Oh, one more thing! Kaguya brought something good back with her from her trip to the moon. :D

The metaphor would've been cooler, yeah. But then we'd be giving CAPCOM too much credit... I probably wouldn't have thought of checking place names in Okami if you hadn't told me what Nakutsukuni meant (my mythology book doesn't mention it)

Judging by the odd hair color, black with red on top, my vote is on a relative of Oki.

WHich is weird because the kid doesn't have a mask..

Really? It seemed like a hybrid mix between Issun and Mushi (the boy in Kamiki with the dog) to me, not Oki-like or Oina at all.

But either way, I made a mistake reading the article. The kid's name is Kuninushi in the new trailer, so he IS Susano and Kushi's son.

Okami as Doctor Who is an in-joke of mine :D We've got timey-wimey (Spirit Gate, sup), aliens everywhere, companions, old school, regenerations, even an useless government organization whose captain is this immortal guy who flirts with the main character lol whut
