I bet the jar is made of fontech

This has been a Shitty Day, but something amusing came out of this on lab class.

Professor: ...So you make the .jar file like this, and later you can find it in the dist folder of the project. *shows, inded, a folder called like that*

Me: ...Fff.
I mean, I know it must be short for distribution or distro or whatever, but my mind went automatically to Saphir Neis. At least I'll never forget where the .jars will be?

While Tales of Graces does look like it'll be shiny, I wish the characters would look more charismatic. I read the descriptions and few backstory that's out, and I don't really feel much interested in any of them. Especially the girls, man: the main one sounds incredibly annoying and cliche, the butler's daughter while cute so far is only love triangle fodder, and the mage girl sounds like a genki ripoff of Rita. And what's left with the males? Mentor that might or not be evil (AGAIN, NAMCO?), stern megane guy, and pretty foppish prince. Just barely more tolerable, yet still not that cool. Asbel's basic plot sounds pretty neat, but I get the feeling I'll end up hating it as soon as he gets more involved with whatever Sophie is into.

Ah, very important!! I'll try to make an icon post somewhere this week. Any suggestions? Any requests? Any images you want to give me (that aren't porn or random fanart you picked on pixiv/4chan)? I did a request post at my [livejournal.com profile] icondork a long time ago, but either I'm too lame and no one cared, or I was too strict. Oh well, I mustn't feel bad about it. Anyway, I have very few pending requests to do, so I might as well do something pretty (or as pretty as I can) for either of you guys.

ETA: Note to self. Stop doing LJ accounts for your shiny new RP muses, when you're still too intimidated and busy to join anything. Somehow I suspect you just want to see if any canonmate poke you at dear_mun, and then feel sad that everyone -even you- forgot all about it the next morning.

I, for one, think Dist's fontech .jars are filled with naughty pictures of Jade~

And I couldn't agree more about the girls in Graces: Sophie is spectacularly boring and that Pascal girl is a total Rita rip-off. I'm a bit more forgiving with regards to the guys, though. I don't think Richard is all that he appears to be - I mean, peace-loving princes are good and all, but the position of Captain Morality has already been filled by Asbel. Hubert seems to be a pretty great character, too, though I secretly think he's the forbidden lovechild of Jade and Legretta.

Except .jars have just compressed code in Java language :o Maybe his programs just print strings of characters on screen saying how awesome Dist the Runny Rose is and how totally sorry Jade will feel when he resurrects the professor, and how hawt the make-up sex would be? XD So, basically fanfic.

I kind of want to give Hubert and Richard more credit, because they have the potential and all, but there's so little info yet and they could also be just as cliche. There's also the fact I'm too used to Takumi Miyajima's scripts and that I haven't been that into Tales games that weren't written by him/her.

That, and that I crack up when I see those two on the trailers XD One is Ninja Jade Jr, the other has the ridiculous flowing cape all woosh.

I only made two this year, but I feel like they're staaaaring at me from the LJlogin list ;_; IDEK what the hell to do with it, if I'm too much of a chicken to app anywhere.

yeahh it's hard to find a game where you can play people at and not feel intimidated. not to mention the time thing, stupid school work.

I-it's more that I'm a bit lacking confidence in general, and I haven't RPed in English for a while, and the last two games I was in I couldn't build nifty enough tags/CR to stick around. So I'm scared that the castmates I could have in the end wouldn't like me that much (or viceversa, I've seen the OOC horrors), and that my pups are too eccentric/obscure for crossover fun times.

I still play a lot, just... in a Spanish-speaking game that's in Insanejournal. English RP fandom scares the shit out of me :(

[identity profile] jupiterk.livejournal.com 2009-10-19 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhh, gotcha. I think your english is good and you'd be fine, but I totally agree RP fandoms are horrifying.

Maybe you should move the muses to insanejournal and play them there?

Thanks ^^ But no, it's more fear of feeling left out and ignored than failing, TBH. I'm easily sensitive to social shit.

Ah, I already do that! (except for one of them; I already play the other character from that fandom I like) And my friends in that game are easy-going and fun, too. But sometimes I get envious I can't play with certain castmates, or post in a DR if I feel like it, or jump at my flist's open RP posts because the accounts aren't LJ. Pros and cons, I guess.

Speaking more in terms of aesthetics, the character designs for the Tales games since Tales of the Abyss have been kind of jarring. None of the characters in Tales of Hearts looked like they came from the same time period or or world, and Tales of Graces has one of the most godawful color schemes I've ever seen. It should translate well to the actual game, though. :/

I'd always appreciate more Yotsuba and Tegami Bachi icons, myself.

With Hearts and Graces, it's a different artist who's the character designer, unlike Phantasia - Symphonia - Abyss - Vesperia which were by the Ah! My Goddess mangaka. Most of the Tales games the other designer does are obscure in the West when/if they come here, funny enough. I'm not a fan of her art either, plus I'm more used to Fujishima's. But I could get over a funky design if the characters and plot and gameplay were my kind of thing; sadly, so far the former seem boring in personality.

Ah, I don't think I have images of any of those on my hard drive. Any suggestion on a particular picture/scene? (I think I've only read like four-five volumes of Yotsubato)

[identity profile] outou.livejournal.com 2009-10-21 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I've only read about four volumes of Yotsubato, too, but just about every page is worth making icons out of. For the sake of simplicity, I love this image from the 2008 calendar, as well as these illustrations from the 2005 calendar: Yotsuba with pandas, armadillos, penguins, and a lone tapir.

So far as Tegami Bachi goes, though, it's been difficult to find high quality scans of the colored manga illustrations. Random Curiosity has fairly large screencaps of the animated series, the second and third episodes of which look better than the first. I hope those work out for you, and thank you!
