Izumi is awesome just by being herself, but the first important thing is that she's one of the first adult female to kick major ass in FMA (true, Riza was introduced before, but her first crowning moment of awesome came later than Izumi's, IIRC. Or is my memory hazy?) I like that she's crazy and strong, but she's still very much a woman, who loves being married and a housewife and a mother figure. Who says a loud badass fighter can't be a romantic with a maternal instinct? Izumi is refreshing by being everything those extreme fandom feminists love AND hate, at the SAME time. Also, she's the mentor, and really wise even if a little extreme in her methods. She makes dreadlocks and flip-flops look good.
