Hi, still on pseudo hiatus, but. This meme is so fucking shiny.
Comment with the name of a female character and I'll tell you why I love her. In return, you can do the same in your journal.

What's great about Sheik is that she's the first (or one of the first) version of Zelda who actually does something besides getting kidnapped or fall asleep or being sealed. She could've easily stayed low profile somewhere else to avoid getting killed; instead, she takes a disguise and brings her help to her old friend. And even if that promotional poster of Sheik being a fighter looks cool, I do prefer her role in the game. She's the adviser, the cryptic ally who comes and goes, the one who teaches you songs, the one who trusts you the most, the compass when you're on a loss. She shows that a character can help without wielding a sword, which seems to be the stupid criteria lately to judge a "strong female character".
Bonus: I think one of the reasons why I love Ushiwaka and Kujaku so much because they're their canons' very own Sheik. Except with moar future-telling and annoyance.

I like that even though she's badass and tries her best to be bushido to the extreme, she's still quite shy and extremely emotional. It's a nice change from the stoic warrior cliché: Lan Fan is so passionate and reckless she's far from it. Her determination and stubbornness is borderline crazy, but it makes her more solid.

At the beginning she didn't seem that nice of a character, but then you get to know her well, and she shines through all the shit that gets thrown at her (and my God, does she get awful shit!). She always hesitates, but in the end she sucks it in and keeps on fighting. And this is the kind of strength we need in female characters! Kicking butts is okay, but she's strong inside when she feels unloved and out of place and sad; she's proud and yet generous, she helps and tries to understand.
But seriously, her take on royalty fucking blows me away. She loves her people so much, and in return they're so loyal because they owe her. It moves me. Mind you, she built hospitals and gave jobs and is a diplomat, and that's while being a princess. The day she becomes the queen, Kimlasca will explode of awesome. And man, does that country need it.

She goes at such lengths to save her people. Such lengths! Even sneaking into the evil organization she hates so much and ranking up, just to discover the real culprit. If that alone isn't fucking impressive, I don't know what is. Alabastans are just awesome, so no wonder their princess is. And she doesn't gives up, no matter how screwed they are; all those scenes where she seems stuck for a few minutes break me a lot. And she's an amazing friend. And an amazing princess, and an amazing pirate, and just an amazing human being. I have a hard time being coherent about Vivi, can't you tell?
