In which I mourn many things, including my weekend

1) RIP Diana Wynne Jones ;_; Thank you for filling my bookshelf with fantasy, fairytale deconstructions, and metrosexual wizards. I will miss you, magnificent lady. I should read more of her books, um.

2) I feel kind of bad because there are a lot of dragons in this gen, but I just fished a level 53 Dragonair and it's my favorite dragon and I want to try him out :| I wanted to use only Unova kids and I was doing so well... I don't know what to do. I still had to catch a Deino to try them out, actually.

3) Hey, guys?

REC ME THINGS YOU THINK WOULD MAKE ME HAPPY!

I realized that lately all the games I've played recently have always some dark element that leaves angst and tragedy lingering, and my mind (and the fanworks) always returns to those. It's funny because they're all fluffy and for the NDS, LOL.

I don't mean games alone, though. Actually, anything but games is preferable. Books, manga, TV shows, movies. I have so much stuff to read/watch that I feel overwhelmed and this is why I've been gaming lately. I don't know what to jump into because there's so much to try and I'm eternally undecided.

Things I've read/watched and loved before are fair game too. And if you don't know me enough, then you could tell me what you've been enjoying lately. But no "Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies" recs, please. INB4 people tossing Magical Madoka and Homestruck anyway.

As long as something falls and everyone dies, it ttly counts.

Actually I AM watching Madoka slowly, I'm on episode 4. But mostly because of the memes and jokes going around. Probably this is why I'm asking for something happy, because I'm going to fucking need it soon if I keep watching this one :'D

Spoilers for the end of the series (highlight to read): Homura was a magical girl for fourteen years. When she was young she watched the others and she said to kyubey "I want to be one too kyubey."
Kyubey said "No! You will BE KILL BY WITCHES"
There was a time when she believed him. Then as she got oldered she stopped. But now in the basement of the city she knew there were witches.
"This is Madoka" the radio crackered. "You must fight the witches!"
So Homura gotted her bombs and blew up the wall.
"SHE GOING TO KILL US" said the witches
"I will shoot at her" said the walpurgis and it fired the magic blasts. Homura bombed at it and tried to blew it up. But then the ceiling fell and they were trapped and not able to kill.
"No! I must kill the witches" she shouted
The radio said "No, Homura. You are the witches"
And then Homura was a papier-mâché collage.

Futurama is ALL I've been watching lately. I can't stop watching it fffff Umm have you ever heard of Oh! My Goddess? I've only watched a few episodes, and even though it's super shoujo stuff it's hilarious. Origins: Spirits of the Past (or something along those lines), and Tales from Earthsea have nice endings. My Neighbor Totoro always puts a smile on my face.

If you don't mind old graphics, Final Fantasy IX is really funny. Until shit gets real.

Uggghhhh no puedo en nada más para te recomendar. Lo siento :C

Ah! My Goddess I remember fondly, though it's been a long time since I saw it. (I sorta thought it was more shounen, though? What with the Plain Average EveryGuy acquiring an awesome magical girlfriend... But then, it has been a long time since I saw it, so maybe I'm off.)

Aww, I have my Futurama DVDs at my uncle's right now. (Although some episodes are the biggest tearjerkers ever and one game I played recently was very Jurassic Bark in a subplot so.) I... watched one adaptation of AMS!/OMG! in the 90's and while it was okay I kinda think it's overrated? Probably because I can't stand Belldandy's dull yamato nadeshiko and she was so popular at the time, bleh. Urd and Skuld were great, but I don't think I can stomach the scenes where the boring sister gets the spotlight. Never heard of Origin, I won't watch Earthsea because I like the first novel and I was told that film is awful, Totoro is cute but it's not my favorite Ghibli movie.

Would rather not, as I'm sure I'll get very attached to Vivi and I know there are sad scenes about him.

No problem, Soy una persona muy difícil |D; Las dos personas que no tenían ni idea de qué recomendar son justo las que me conocen mejor, qué dirá eso de mí.

A-as long as it's not something as horrible as CLONES DYING BY ONLY FRIEND'S HANDS or YOUR ANTAGONIST HAD THE WORST PARENT EVER AND A NASTY CHILDHOOD, I can take some angst! In small doses!

I mean, the PJO books are full of terrible things. And I apped one character from there with Manpain. (Nooooot as much as Luke or Nico, thank gods, but he still does angst.)

-G GUNDAMU is a pretty hilarious anime
-Psychonauts is a really fun game
-So is Machinarium although that's only on Steam!!
-Okamiden is surprisingly really fun and enjoyable although it feels more like a carbon copy of Okami but tinier. Idc still fun.

The fact you rec Okamiden shows that you haven't finished it, LMAO. That game is the most recent cause of HEARTBREAK I've had over a vidya geemu. Hell, that game IS the reason why I'm asking for happy shit, ironically.

I have Psychonauts, however I can't play desktop consoles these days so it's stuck in a long PS2 backlog. I lost Machinarium when my HDD died, but I got stuck at some puzzle anyway. I guess I should try something that needs no mental/physical effort like watchable or readable things.

Have you seen Doctor
Who "Space" and "Time" specials
(http://gallifreyanembassy.org/vortex/node/2080) yet?

I've been watching The Outer Limits a lot lately, but a. a lot of episodes have Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies endings; and b. I've been watching it on hulu.com, and I'm not sure it's available outside of the US. I did find a site that had Pinky and the Brain.

Do you like watching playthroughs of video games? Zork: Grand Inquisitor and Are You Afraid of the Dark: The Tale of Orpheo's Curse are pretty good, not too depressing, and have endings that make up for the depressing bits.

hulu.com doesn't believe in foreign people using the Internet. So I pretend the site doesn't exist either.

Unless they're games I'm very curious about, I don't like to watch Let's Plays of random stuff.

It might be hit-or-miss for you, but have you ever tried any of the Disgaea games? I finished the DS port of the first game over my last break, and while there were some sad and thoughtful moments, the story as a whole is pretty cheerful and funny. (The best ending is one of the most unabashedly-happy things I've seen in a while, and it's a cinch to get!)

You can also try the Touch Detective series, which has both a weird art style and a weird sense of humor. The actual gameplay is very short, though -- in the first game, there are only five "episodes" to work through. I personally was happy with it, especially since the characters were so charming; even so, I'd only recommend getting the games at sale price.

So far as manga goes, the creator of Aria is currently working on something called Amanchu. It's a very fluffy, pleasant, and silly story about two girls, their love of diving, and friendship. Seriously! No witches attached!

I don't get the appeal of strategy games and tactic RPGs, so the gameplay of Disgaea would elude me.

I can't afford more NDS games, and the emulators are so slow in this laptop I'd only play Ace Attorney games in them. Besides, I've had enough of games, period.

I read two chapters and TBH it didn't call my attention.

Oh man, I loved the manga but one day I got behind and forgot what was the last chapter I read. And it's way too long to retake from the beginning. So I had to drop it :( In any case, after a point it was getting repetitive as the shounen it is.

The first Professor Layton game is heavier on the warm-and-fluffy, Suikoden Tierkreis is a lot of fun and ends happily (though some sad things happen in the middle), I will always love Toshokan Senso (which has a lot of humor despite the premise), and I've been marathoning Cromartie High School lately (105% random humor and the episodes are only 10 minutes each).

...also, I just started Tales of the Abyss and Mieu makes me happy. :3

Edit: Aha reading fail, you said anything but games. >_< I still stand by Toshokan Senso and Cromartie!

No prob, I think it's my fault for not being clear! I've never been able to finish the first Layton game because I'm a little OCD with its puzzles and want to have all the ones I find solved, and thus I never move forward when I can't solve them and have no Internet access.

I adore Tales of the Abyss, but there are plenty of dark-angsty stuff in the plot so I'm not replaying it ATM. It's a great game regardless and one of my favorites.

I'll check out everything, though :D
