Can't brew for Bob under these conditions

Okay, so I got my Pottermore mail last night. I'm RainSilver82 in case someone wants to add me there. The important part about this thing is the wand and house, so let's go with that. My wand is cypress, 10 inches, phoenix feather core, slightly springy. Sounds neat. I got sorted to Honey Badger House! I like to think of myself as a Ravenpuff mix TBH, but a good amount of quizzes and LJ sorting comms have seen the Hufflepuff sometimes, so I was well prepared for this result. Recently I've felt that I've lost most of my Puff due to depression and being a selfish lazyass in my adult years, but okay. It's still cool. *insert Hufflepuff gif with that dancing guy with the chicken legs here*

The site itself... I did everything last night and now I don't know what else to do? I absolutely detest potions, only managed to brew 2 out of 5 -I've even lost a cauldron thanks to bottles being glitchy-, and I don't really want to experiment while there aren't means to gain new money. Duels are down right now, so fuck this shit. I feel kinda awful because we're last place, but I doubt 1pt per cooking disaster will help that much.

McGonagall's backstory is awesome. Sad, but awesome to know.

Ah, before I forget, [livejournal.com profile] insanepurin gave me 5 things to rant about like a week ago.

Magic Knight Rayearth

...Uh, how should I say this. I haven't updated my interests in a million years. I left the CLAMP fandom a couple of years ago because I really wasn't feeling them anymore. So, while there are works by then I still respect and really enjoy (I have a color-coded list), MKR never made it to the cut. My tastes from when I was 20 and CLAMP's twists were refreshing and different have changed, and I was never that invested in the main three characters to keep liking it. Plus, the second part was just weird and dull to me.

I... am sorry?

Thundercats

I did watch the original when I was little and it was fun, but I don't remember much because my childhood memory is blurry as fuck. In any case, I'm enjoying the new show a lot more. It's endearing and with gorgeous animation, with an interesting plot and nice characters. I honestly can't talk too much about it because it's just beginning, but it's pretty ambitious so far. I love watching it all weeks and talking about it with my friends. And the crew has a blog on Tumblr to answer questions, which is an amazing thing.

Pokémon

I'm sort of new in the fandom. My first game was SoulSilver when it came out, and I'm kind of casual about it. I play sometimes, I follow some Tumblr blogs, I save pretty fanart, the usual stuff. I like Johto and Unova the best: my Sinnoh playthrough is in grinding limbo and I can't seem to get into Hoenn even if I've tried to start a new game twice. I'm very odd in my playing, as IDGAF about finishing my dex, and my teams are a huge group I rotate in my party as I see fit. I'd never Nuzlocke since I'm not hardcore. I don't know if I'd ever poke the fandom as I find that kind of ship names embarrassing. But yeah, they're cute and difficult RPGs when you don't think about it too hard.

Doctor Who

I'm even more casual about Who, and I avoid the wanky fandom even further! Truth to be told, I haven't watched anything old!Who because I'm lazy and cheesy effects give me the giggles. I started with Nine, like most people, and I enjoyed him. Then I didn't like Ten and I avoided all of his seasons, until recently when I checked a few bunch of episodes my friends recced. I went back with Eleven who might as well be "my Doctor". I tend to prefer the Doctor when he's cheery and whimsical, and Ten was the least one from the new doctors. I'm liking Moffat's run despite of its flaws and my favorite character is River Song, so. Whatever, fandom.

Princess Tutu

This anime is amazing. I love how meta it is. I love how it can be fluffy and hopeful while not shying away from dark, sad stuff. I love the characters and how everyone gets to be so complicated. I love the flexibility they are in their roles and how that's the fucking point of the story. Also, I'm not a ballet person but I always found the Nutcracker and adaptations a fascinating thing, so something in my childhood resonates with the aesthetics of pretty mahou shoujo ballet in a fairytale.

I still recommend City of Death from Classic Who. It's a lot of fun and has some of the best dialog ever. I think you would enjoy it. I don't remember if you saw that one or not.

I haven't seen any Classic Who at all. A friend of mine recs that particular serial all the time because she's a Four/Romana shipper, so at least I know it's an iconic story.

Princess tutu is great. I think it may be one of my favorite anime of all time.

Mine too!

I'm super casual about Clamp and most fandoms in general lol, but when I decide to read anything of theirs, I do so because it's pretty. They have absolutely gorgeous art I think, but sometimes their stories are just...wtf.

And honestly, the only part of the Pokemon fandom I like and actively participate in is [livejournal.com profile] ontdpokemon. I don't care what anyone says, that comm is freaking awesome. The shipping and porn stuff is kind of weird, though. But hey, whatever floats their boat.

The color artwork is really amazing, but I never found their art in their manga panels so spectacular. IDK, the details are great and all (I can't get over Touya's motorcycle in CCS), but the characters are so disproportionate and odd! And I don't only mean the noodle people in Tsubasa/XXXHOLiC. The wide shoulders + tiny waist in the male characters on old series can be jarring sometimes regardless of the hot faces that go with them.

I lurk that comm too! I just never find anything witty to say, so I've only participated twice. The 30 days meme is fun but I've been too lazy to post in that.

Haha, this is so true XDD I tend to forget about them because when I think of CLAMP, I think of nice looking ladies in really ornate costumes. Well, the main characters at least...

I don't think you need to have anything witty to say! I probably sound like an idiot in most of my comments XDD

I normally find the secondary CLAMP ladies prettier than their female protagonists. Dunno, too shoujo cutesy to me or something. Unless they're older female protagonists like Yuuko, but they're rare and I'm still not ready to think about XXXHOLiC.

True, but I'm not familiar with the ONTD-family-comms' mindset and I'm always afraid of saying something wrong/dull. I get the feeling that the "bitch, xyz is flawless and you are stupid if you disagree" kind of comments are only cute/funny if you have friends there. I never know when they're kidding with that and when they're really judging you. Dunno, the usual posters' attitudes are just weird to me, like why do they like to pretend they're rude?

Delurks

You can still get points for practicing the potions and can't lose any that way. And man I hope they add the dueling back in cause potions is way to finicky for me.

Practice counts for points?! I didn't know that, thanks!

ETA: Um, I just practiced and it didn't give me any new point. Maybe it's just the first time or they changed it.

Yeah my friend was totally confused when she told me. I just futzed around with it for a while and couldn't figure it out. I did find that you get a point just for waving your wand on the potions, but then it shut down before I could retest it. >_>

TLDR; I fail.

ETA: Ok I figured out what it was. If you say you're going to brew a potion, you can just use your wand right away (skip any of the steps) and you get 1 point for just trying, but you lose the ingredients I think, so that's not all that helpful.

Ah, okay! Don't worry about it. Yeah, but since once I messed up so bad that I got 5 points off and I lost a cauldron, I honestly don't know if it's worth it to sink money for 1 point. We're like 2000 behind the third place, it's not like I'm helping at all with my failures.
