Update: I bought an official memory card, and started again. 4 hours. Agata Forest. After fighting Waka for the first time ♥
I made a double save before the fight, so I can go back again if I feel like it. Why yes, this is dorky. But not as dorky as what I did next. You see, the PAL (European) version of the game comes in three languages: English, French, and German. (This actually brought a good level of wank in Spain, because some Spanish gamers are so spoiled with the translated versions they can't be bothered with OMGWTF A GAME THAT'S NOT IN SPANISH I CAN'T PLAY THAT, and a part of them even going all EWW ENGLISH COOTIES. Any Latin American gamer would roll their eyes at them and laugh their ass out. But I digress.)
Like I was saying, PAL version of Okami is in three languages. And since English!Waka speaks random French, I wondered if French!Waka would speak random English. It would be the karmic thing to do. So I fought him with French as the language, too see how he'd talk like.
First random fact of the French translation: the names weren't shortened. And hell, they even let some Japanese terms, such as youkai. I was all excited because he was Ushiwaka, eeeeeeh.
But about the way he talks... Well, besides being a bit more verbose when he greets or says good-bye, there wasn't a change. The only English that was left was the Devil May Cry joke ("Let's rock, baby!"). There weren't even the "baby" at the end of the sentences as in Japanese. The "ma chérie" was left. So, besides the names and some terms, I assume they took the text from the English translation as it was and made their own adaptation.
I should check the German version to see if there's gratuitous French there XD
ETA: Played the German. Nah, they translated the French back to English XD But he's still Waka, and the English words are just the French from the English translation. Oh, LOL translators.
