Gainaxing from developing stages

So, apparently they're changing Asuka's last name for the Evangelion movies to 'Shikinami Asuka Langley'. I don't particularly feel outraged, even if I was one of the three non-horny-fanboy people who liked her at the time, but I just can't see the point? Why change it now, so many years later? My theory is that they wanted the fanbase to be arguing about the symbolism and meta behind the name change since they hadn't mindfucked the audience yet.

Besides, it's easier to pronounce Sohryu, WTF. Like the full name wasn't mouthful at it were!
