Pffft color question

CCS question.

What's Kaho's favorite color, according to YOUR country's volume? (Profile is in volume 4)

I've seen white, ivory, gold, green, neutral... This is tiring me.

ETA; LOL, I'm now at the computer labs at college, and there's this dude watching Ouran in Youtube XDDDD And considering it's one of the Kasanoda episodes, it can't be random watcher. I'm trying to think of something witty to say when I get to pass by, but I don't think I dare.

ETA2: It's now official the original source meant an off-white tone for Kaho's favorite color. Which fits my bunnies, good. However, after getting the kanji from a Japanese fansite, and testing it at Jim Breen's, I see where the green came from. The first kanji, if consulted alone, could mean green. However, by context, it looks like that meaning refers to non-mature as in fruits and not the color itself. So it's a slip from TokyoPop. The primary colors from Ivrea are still WTF, though.

Okay. So. After some consultations and arguing and extensive use of dictionaries, the closest we can come up with is the color of "unbleached cloth."

Seriously.

That's from the Japanese version. Lucky you, volume 4 is the only volume of CCS I own.

WTF

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
*blinks* What.

But how did turn out to be, according to websites, gold or dark GREEN?

Re: WTF

[identity profile] the-great-elk.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
*blinks back* I have no idea. We did everything we could think of, and "unbleached cloth" is apparently what the Japanese version literally says. Which I'm guessing means something like beige or "natural."

No idea how those happened, though. o.O

If I recall correctly, the scanlations said something in the lines of natural or neutral. Spanish tranlation says "ivory", but that's kind of on the lines of white-like and beige after all.

I've seen two websites so far saying green.

This is getting confusing. Might as well stick to white-like colors so it complements Eriol's black. Or something. Dunno.

Afterthought: maybe she was thinking of hair color? That she doesn't like bottle blond or those outrageous red tones L'Oreal style? it's not like it matters to her a lot since she only dates dark-haired guys

hong kong volumes, natural colour(s). :D

Ivrea Argentina: primary colours. WHAT. O___O

It's weird because their translation is really accurate for the most part...

.........So red and blue, too? *facepalm*

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It looks like it's the only translation who says so, though, so it's probably a mistake.

I was about to look for my volume cause I couldn't remember (I thought of ivory but that one's listed as Fujitaka's DX; I need to re-read it, how can I forget this stuff? I used to remember each damn pannel)

And srsly, wtf, primary colors? o_O;;;

Actually, after investigating the original kanji, primary colors is now the one making the least sense. Even green is an understandable translator mistake, but the primary colors thing is just... yeah O_o WTF Ivrea.

I think it's more of the fact CLAMP chose a weird (scheme of) color(s) nobody can translate well to Western languages and agree with.

The rest of the strangeness could be fanbratty webmasters making things up.

According to the French edition, it changes with her mood. (At least it's what I think "selon l'humeur" means.)

...Great, now French fanbrats must think she's in an eternal PMS or doesn't care or something... That really should improve the bashing.

Do you have the Japanese versions? I'd look it up in mine, but I haven't got them here with me. :/

I don't, but I found the kanji for the phrase on a Japanese fansite.

好きな色: 生成り

Jim Breen, like [livejournal.com profile] the_great_elk says, translates it as "unbleached cloth". I'll appreciate it if you tell me what you understand it says ^_^ *bows*

[identity profile] iamsocool12345.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! XD Yeah, that's sort of difficult. Literally, it is "unbleached cloth", but I mean, I'd translate it as "off-white".

It's like this (http://mouse.cross-shop.jp/images/4571173929550-01.jpg).

Hope that helps! :)

[identity profile] iamsocool12345.livejournal.com 2006-10-17 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Or "ivory" is really good actually.

That's what I thought :D *searched the kanji on Google images, but several kind of washed-out colors popped out; however, the yellowish white/ivory was more common*

Thank you a lot! ^____^

Kodansha Billingual edition! woot! (For once not Tokyopop. I bought these back before you couldn't buy them in the US anymore.)

"Off-white"

Wow, there you go! So says kodansha!

I know you are done with this but...

Brazilian version: straw ! XD

I'm sure they meant "off-white", though ^^ It's just hard to say that in portuguese.

[identity profile] rainmage.livejournal.com 2006-10-18 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks ^^ Straw can be almost white if it's light yellow enough :D ...I think? O.o *is urban*

Yo también tengo la versión de Glénat, así que no puedo ayudarte en nada. tal vez me decantaría por "colores crudos", en vista de los resultados.

Espero que no sea muy tarde pero en la versión mexicana (Editorial Toukan) dice: KINARI

a ver si sirve de algo.

Cómo esperan que los lectores sepan qué rayos significa eso?
