taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Crossover / oh so obscure)

Don't mind me

Interesting crossovers to do with Howl's Moving Castle:

- Sullivan from Monsters, inc. I blame [livejournal.com profile] fujurpreux. It's all about entering the wrong doors.

- Fujimoto from Ponyo on the Cliff. They were ttly interdimensional BFF before this guy moved out to the sea in disgust to his own species.

- Just Discworld. You know Howl can also move through L-space. Let's argue with the Librarian and fellow coward Rincewind!

I never said I'd write them. I just pointed out they were interesting ideas.

It's a start. <3

... Howl and Rincewind. That would be amazing.

Funny enough, they wouldn't get along. Starting with the fact that Rincewind wouldn't believe Howl is also a wizard, without a hat and all that... using magic. Needs moar sequins, too. Alas, the differences among magical cowards. He'd love the seven-league boots, though.

BTW, I read that the next Discworld book is a wizards one! It comes out in a few months in Britain.

they wouldn't get along
And that would be the best part of it. XD

Oooh, awesome! :D I need to get more Discworld books. I'm really behind.

I thought something like that when I saw Fujimoto in Ponyo!

I keep wondering if it was something in the character design (oh Ghibli). Or just my intuition that most crazy, wicked wizards must know each other somehow.

Are we talking Ghibli Howl or original flavor? Both are good, they just give me a different mental image of the scenarios.

The Monster's Inc one gave me giggles, though.

Original flavor. Ghibli!Howl is too much of a woobie for me to imagine. It could still work, but it's not that funny without being a bit of a wicked bastard. Plus, the novel canon is the one where multiple dimensions work.

Sadly not my own plotbunny, but I'd like to write it if I didn't have a block.

I can't believe I'd never noticed how similar L-space was to Howl's castle! I guess this means Calcifer is the moving castle's equivalent of the Librarian, or something.

Now that I think about it, there are a lot of similarities between the two franchises, aren't there? I could totally see them existing in the same universe. The King in Howl's Moving Castle is exactly like, well, any guild-leader in Discworld, whereas Vetinari isn't all that different from the Wizard Sullivan.

Except this one works better with compliments, conversations, and bacon instead of banana bribes. Easier to talk to as well.

Bzuh? From what I recall, Sullivan was a normal, nice, even plain guy that had absolutely nothing to do with Veterinari. Or are you talking about that woman that was Howl's teacher or something in the movie canon? I was talking about the novels all this time.

[identity profile] colonize.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahaha! So true. Calcifer is also less likely to rip your head off for calling him what he is.

Pfft, I fail~ I haven't read the novel in the last decade, so when in doubt, my mind automatically falls back on the movie canon. Yeah, if I recall correctly, movie!Sullivan is a manipulative old witch who pulls both Howl's and the Witch of the Waste's strings. She's the closest thing their universe has to a Vetinari.
