Yesterday, I was raving about Clow and his name. But today I realized something. Hence a new theory that actually makes sense with canon and not with international culture. I think CLAMP has already told us, in their sick little way, what's Clow's Chinese name!

See? In the official Tsubasa guides, Clow country is written with kanji and furigana. Or is it? What if they've been writing it in Chinese all this time?
The meaning is more or less the same in both languages. First one "ku": black stone, nine. Second one "rou": tower, storied building.
Of course, this is only a theory. Maybe it's just the country's name, but why would they have to give it a kanji/Chinese name? They didn't do that with Seles, for instance, and it's just as exotic. But let's suppose, just for my sanity, I'm not just a paranoid and this is Clow Reed's first name written in Chinese/kanji and not only the country.
Then, in order to know Clow's real name, you just have to pronounce it in Chinese. Clever. Then he's Jiǔlóu, in pinyin romanization. (Pronunciation: this + this)
This could fit my own theory AND Laurus' theory. Clow is just a bizarre romanization of his own name -which was Chinese- he came up with. That could explain how the word "Clow" is all over the place and the spells still work. Because it *is* his real name, just weirdly written (and sometimes prounounced?) It also explains the fact we can't find Clow either as an English name OR a word.
I still think he was legally a Li, and that he took his father's last name with his new name variation, though. Maybe that could give him a protection towards strangers, as he's not supposed to be Clow Reed/Kurou·Riido, but Li Clow/Jiulou.
I'm sad because I had invented a cool name. But I can always make it a nickname, alas.
