taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Waka / pretty fly for a moon guy)

I see a trend in my fandoms

[livejournal.com profile] outou pointed me out that Pixiv is an effective place for spoilers. On one hand, now I know what I wanted to know. Good, it's not the worst option! It gives me more questions, but they're new questions at least! On the other, now I know the particulars of the thing I vaguely heard they were going to pull, and I think I didn't want to know about that one. The implications of both facts is very D: to the point it's eclipsing my distrust of the game itself with just... staring at angsty fanarts of Japanese fanon forever. Like Waka didn't have enough of those already.

So I guess I'll have to pull my big girl panties and...

Eshiro, you do hate everything I love. But hey, I made a silly animated gif!

And now I'll shut up about Okamiden, at least for a while. Spoilers will surely be in comments, instead of being a normal gal and use a cut.

And now I made it worse for you. I'm sorry, since you actually can read some of the text, I thought you would know better than me? DDD:

I can only read a little katakana by this point -- everything else goes through the Babelfish blender. :D

It's not as if it's entirely out of the realm of Ōkami, since the deaths in that game all felt like a punch in the gut (even Tobi's, as minor a character as he was), but throwing that extra guilt onto Waka's already guilt-ridden backstory is a little much. Especially if it involves a character who looks as innocent, funny, cheerful as Kurou.

YOU KNOW, FOR KIDS!

Oh, I see :o My Babelfishing skills must be worse, as it sounds like bullshit every time XD *is "translating" Japanese boards for more spoilers ATM*

I'm fine with character death, but the reason I'm annoyed is a) like you said, it's unnecessary new drama for Waka, and b) why do you kill a CHILD? The deaths in the original were all adults or beings with a long existence (I guess I assume Tobi was an adult in demon paper terms?), and I thought they wanted to make it kiddier and cuter to get to a younger audience. Um, it's contradictory and sad.

Babelfish English is harder to understand than Old English, you know

Children can be pretty resilient to messages around death (Nadeshiko and Clow are obvious examples in CCS, which treats the subject very well), but I'm not sure how good an idea it was to not only kill a young character in a kid's game onscreen, but to kill one of the player's teammates. Of course, we could be wrong about Ōkamiden being a game intended for children, but the development team must be insane if it didn't think that lots of little kids would pick it up.

It's more effective to use word-by-word dictionary software

Oh, let's see. Cover art depicts a puppy wolf cub and a boy. If that doesn't scream little children, I don't know what does. Sadly, people do judge by its cover, especially when buying things for their kids.

But yeah, see how Harry Potter is a massacre in terms of character deaths, and people of all ages read this and deal with it.
