taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Obligatory Star Wars icon)
Well yeah... sorry if you saw last night's capslock of O NO U DIDN. The shit is still NOT DONE, amazingly. I need to do my suitcase, fuck it all.

But anyway...

Feliz día del orgullo friki!

Happy "how do they rise" day!
*which still can't understand because she hasn't read that Discworld book*

And me, I'm a bit happier because I got this shiny, shiny fanlisting approval ZOMG *_* I must've had zero competition LOL So I have two wishlisters in upcoming. At least Waka already has a layout because I'm building a shrine anyway. I need to start on Ling as soon as possible.

So. Today it's Geek Pride day in Spain. To celebrate in some way, I'll upload random Star Wars mp3s.

taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Clow / Who played cards)
Well, yeah, I still hate teamwork -more than ever, even. So I checked links around Youtube for kicks.

The day I brainwashed [livejournal.com profile] arcadia_, she was showing an episode of the infamous Zelda cartoon. How about this video? It's so awful it'll make your ears bleed, yet so pathetic you have to laugh even as a self-defense mechanism. Me? My ribcage hurts now XD

After the house smackdown, I feel like watching the CCS anime. If it wasn't 3:00 and so in the morning, I would watch my favorite episode, #68. But the catch is, I want to watch the Mexican dub with the sexy Yue voice (Mexican CCS is a weird dub in the sense I actually like a big percentage of their voices as much as or better than the original; exceptions are the sun guardians as they make me crawl to a corner and raise mushrooms when in Spanish T_T). Youtube provides, but it's not the hour to drool on a monitor. I'll save the link for later, though.

And thinking about seiyuus, my mind goes OT and decides Johan from Monster is creepier than even brain-eating psychopaths (including Hannibal and Sylar) just because he got voiced by Nozomu Sasaki *shudders*. Damn, this man could pull Eriol's dual nature perfectly, although it always felt so wrong to me. And I think I now understand why: I prefered the Mexican VA. The duality from the original gets lost, as he only did one tone, but his voice suits fine and it's hotter, and I can feel better perving in since it's not either pseudo-psycho childish or weird deep.

I should rewatch the original as well. I can't quite remember Clow's Japanese voice, and that's my only excuse.

By the way, during the Mienai Chizu sequence with the flowers blooming? THERE'S A TREE OF MAGNOLIAS. AJHJGJHGSK.
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Eriol-tachi / family portrait)
In TV Tropes, the article on Big Fancy House anime cliché.

Two characters in Card Captor Sakura have big houses; the less fancy one belongs to the Kinomoto family (Sakura's dad is a famous archeologist; Mom was a famous model). Tomoyo Daidouji, being the daughter of a toy-company CEO (her mom), lives in a classic Big Fancy House; Tomoyo's bedroom is bigger than the entire second floor of Sakura's house.

Two characters, they say.

TWO.

*makes a "You'll see, you'll see" gesture to the monitor and breaks out the spampic*

taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Nakuru & Spinel / bonding)
The good news: In [livejournal.com profile] clamp2share, Card Captor Sakura manga raws!!! OMG OMG. I've wanted them for ages, and now I won't have to scan my volumes ever again. The icons I could make with these~~

The bad (for me) news: They started with the Magic Knight Rayearth cover lot now. Eagle. Next one will be Lantis, and so on. There's no justice T___T

ETA: This comic strip amuses me
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Kero-chan / Addiction)
So, what have I been doing this Holy Week break? Well, I played some Zelda yesterday, and now I finally have the Master Sword (shut up, I'm slow and lazy)

But also, I've been downloading movies I was meaning to watch for some time, be it because I never watched the whole thing on my childhood, or because I keep hearing about it. So it was:

  • Labyrinth (yeah, the one with David Bowie; my inner child approved, and now I have CCS plotbunnies, goddamit)

  • Dogma (which was amusing, kinda like Good Omens but more serious and with prettier people)

  • Clerks (since I was already checking Kevin Smith movies... *shrugs*)

  • Kiki's Delivery Service (so adorable! it was odd how I could relate with Kiki in some aspects, and the fact that city looked like a nicer version of Coruña didn't help. where can I find a cute nerd like Tombo to flirt with me? or my own Jiji? :3)

  • Nausicäa of the Valley of the Wind (because I want to watch as many GHIBLI movies as I can; I adored this one, old school Miyazawa is surely amazing)

Now for some meta, and I'll go to bed.

You know, when it comes to mythology and we talk about winged lions, there are only three things to come to mind. One is the lamassu, the Asirian creature who's a winged lion with a man's head. The second is the griffin, half an eagle and half a lion. Nonetheless, those two monsters are very different to Clow's very own Cerberus. So far, what I've seen as most similar is St. Mark's evangelist symbol, which is pretty much a lion with angel wings (and St. Matthew's fits Yue, kind of). I was forced to learn the Evangelists when I was in elementary school (lol nuns), you see.

But today I was googling aroung to see if I could find something interesting about winged lions, and I stumbled with St. Mark's Clowcktower or Torre Dell'orologio in Venice. Pictures and descriptions of that place set me aback.
The outermost displays the number 1 to 24 in Roman numerals, and a hand embellished with a depiction of the sun indicated the hour. The second dial depicts the twelve signs of the zodiac, picked out, like the inner dials, in gilt on an enamel blue background. The inner dials indicate the phases of the moon and sun.

...For something so Catholic, it gives me too many vibes about a fictional Chinese-English man who most probably didn't believe in this god. Oh CLAMP. Like British crown jewelry wasn't enough, now you have to bring Venice! Someone write Clow in Venice and writing down ideas right now.

And the worse part of the tower is, of course, the lion statue. With starry background. Yessss. And it's not the only winged lion in Venice, mind you.

And to wrap it up, the WTF link of the day, just for this paragraph:
The winged lion is a symbol of peace.
The lion with an open book is a symbol of peace,
with its book closed is a symbol of war.

...*facepalm*
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Magic = alcoholism)
Stop. Meta time.

First issue. You know how in CLAMP it looks like almost all adults (with adult bodies, that is) sorcerers (or just people with big powers) drink or is told they enjoy alcohol? Because taking it to consideration, it's a bit silly to say a magician or magical person is an alcoholic just because they're seen drinking a couple of times in canon, or the words "sake" or "booze" appear in their list of interests.

Because okay, yeah, it's quite likely Yuuko does have a problem with her drinking. And Clow could've gone away with it with frequency. But people like Kaho, or even Fay, aren't portraited as perpetual drunkards (especially not now for Fay; I mean pre!Tokyo Fay obviously).

I think that this is just CLAMP's canalizing her taste for booze through their characters way to make their adults more realistic. Or the crack theory: there's something so bad about magic of the sorcery variety in CLAMPverse it drives them to drink XD *see icon*

Besides, sake is used in Shintoist rituals. Kaho was raised in a shrine and worked as a miko. She's canonically able to taste sake a few times a year and enjoy it, without being a drunken whore. Now, there's nothing wrong with assuming a huge love for drinks for fanon, like me making RP!adult!Eriol like his occasional Guiness pints at the local pub, but using it for pepperjack cheese or bashing purpose is a bit too much.

Second issue. I found myself googling kanji for flowers... again. *headdesk*

On one hand, it's cute that both Nakuru and Kaho's favorite flowers have the kanji of moon on them, and they're both white. If you're curious, Kaho's is Oenothera tetraptera and Nakuru's is Epiphyllum oxypetalum.

On the other hand, Spinel's is Papaver somniferum. Which is the opium poppy.

WTF SPINEL. WTF.
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Clow / Who played cards)
First canon pimping. Here's the 1/4 part of CCS. Pretty accurate to do it today, April 1st, day in which the main character was born.

Cardcaptor Sakura

This is the story of a pretty magician called Clow Reed, who had an unusual heritage for his time, a weird way to do things, a medium-sized reason to angst in the CLAMP scale of doom, and too much free time in his hands. He had made two cute creatures and a deck of magic cards and two Mokonas, but that was another canon, and he lived as happy as he could with them.

...Okay fine, the story is set decades after his death, and told from his heiress' point of view, but he's still guilty of everything.

So yeah, follow the adventures of 4th grader Sakura Kinomoto, who's forced to gather temperamental cards-spells with the help of a mascot who looks like a toy, a best friend who has a fetishist crush on her, and a foreign grumpy boy who knows kung-fu. The genre is magical girls. Not as epic as Sailor Moon, not as smart as Princess Tutu, but it's still cute and funny to read and it doesn't drag as much as the anime version, as there are less cards to gather. And the guys are pretty to look at, which is cool.

And there's the canon pairings. If the childish premise doesn't convince you, the not-so-politically-correct couples should. You want normal het? You got it. You want gay/bisexual teenagers? You got it. You want lesbians? You got it. You want male/asexual or alive people/ghosts? You got it. You want teachers proposing to their students? You fucking got it. And so on. This shit is bananas. Not as much as X and RG Veda, but you know, for the genre itself it's pretty WTF.

By the way, it's not gory as Tsubasa, and I promise you the main characters in CCS are pretty much different from their TRC versions. RLY.

Happy birthday-by-choice, Eriol! :D

...What can I say, it's tradition for me to write some shit about Eriol on March 23, be it genfics or rants or whatever. This year I had no plot to think about, so I wiki'ed famous events for that day, wondering how the fuck I could fill the Eriol-and-Fujitaka-have-different-birthdays issue in a funny way. The rest came naturally, by tying knots. Introducing Spinel nerding over mythology, and Nakuru as a Duchovny fangirl TV-phile, and yet another Tolkien stupidity -this time with CANON links rubbing in my face, go figure.

Anyway, I found Pratchett paperback books on the supermarket. I had read all of them because those are in the public library, but it's good to have them myself. I got Soul Music because it's got the first Susan appearance and it's so made of win, and The Last Continent because that's one weird book and talking with [livejournal.com profile] laurus_nobilis the other day about Ponder Stibbons ♥ the wizards made me crave this badly.

The Internet connection has been wonky today. It seems it's behaving well now, though. But maybe that's because the cable TV is wonky now. *headdesk*

Incidentally, ogm videos can be the win when it comes to take screencaps! I just discovered that when you cap something ogm with removable subtitles on BSPlayer, the image -doesn't- have any text on it! <3 <3

Now, let's talk about something: Cut for people who aren't into CCS )
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Kenshin / Hitokiri scars)
It's been ages since I last used Photoshop or coded CSS. How nice it feels.

I've been rereading random manga parts just because.

- I had forgotten how cute and sexy Kazuhiko/Oruha is. And Suu and Oruha's friendship was so "aww". But most of all, the hidden "cameras" or whatever popping out occasionally freaked me out. I'm hoping that, when/if CLAMP finishes the two Clover volumes left, they develop more on Oruha's killer and whether Kazuhiko could find him/her/it.

- I think I've developed a couple of theories about Hohenheim, but I'll talk about that some other day.

- You know, in early CCS volumes, sometimes the similarities between Fujitaka and Eriol are too much. And I've noticed that when I write about Clow or read the Soel to Larg translations, I imagine his facial expressions and fanon traits like a mix between his reincarnations. Let me tell you, I would've PAID good money to CLAMP so they'd drawn a Clow with a kinda!evil!Eriol smirk or a surprised!Fujitaka look on his face XDDDD Because that'd be TOO hot.

I'm sick of reviewing. Now I have an hour and a quarter to waste. Graaaaaaaah. I want to get on with this and be FREE!

1. My layout's CSS looks a bit wonky on Internet Explorer. The sidebar is like 5 extra pixels to the left. Nnnnng.

2. Suppi aka Spinel Sun from Card Captor Sakura

I don't know if it's because I've RPed too much as Eriol, or I'm just a purist, but when I saw that I was all "bitch, no".

It's Spinel Sun aka Suppi. Not the other way around, k? That's the way his goddamned creator named him, therefore that's so not an alias.
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Soel / Leave this world with style)

(ETA: no, espera, sería mejor clase abstracta y no interfaz.)

taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Yue / Die)
Dear whoever who was in charge of the Cardcaptor Sakura anime artbooks:

Why didn't some of the covers of those lame anime comic books make it to any arbook? The first ones did, but not all of them. I gotta tell you, it's distressing that after all these years, I stumble to something like this and don't recognize some of the pics from nowhere.

(OK, fine, it's distressing because there's art with Eriol I'll never find scans for, and I don't think I'll buy that piece of crap to scan it myself. I'm a freak, but a broke freak.)

Snorting at your general direction,
me.

***

Dear artist who made the covers:

What, Eriol's guardians are so minor you had to stuck a more major character in their covers to work it out?

That's lame, man.

Shaking her head in disbelief,
me.
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Yamazaki's emperor penguin lie)
Okay then. Operative Systems practice? Uploaded. OO Programming exercises? Uploaded. The deadline was until tomorrow, so for the first time or whatever I'm delivering something a DAY before. Go me or something.

I found the fourth book of Earthsea by chance, and I bought it even though I still haven't gotten the third one. And while I'm only by chapter two, I already know Ghibli screwed the books' timeline. WTF is Therru doing in that movie?

By the way, I went for a walk at the mini-mall near home today, because I like to peek at the pet shop. And the shop next to it is a decoration one. And there was this stand that -I SWEAR TO GOD- looked like my Card Captor Sakura mangas puked on it. There were these rustic Teddy bears made of regular fabric, the ones that look like they're hand-made by an aunt of yours but you know, in your heart, they were manufactured in [insert Asian country]. But see, these bears? They were THE CCS BEARS. They looked so similar it's eerie. There was one that was coffee-and-milk-colored and I was all like "Li made this one lololol" (yeah, it's darker than that, but humor me)

To make it better: The shelf right below the rustic bears? You know what it had? You know?!

SHEEP PLUSHIES. Assorted sizes. OMFGYAYHGHJSGKGKGS.

I had to leave before I went all "fly, my pretties!", and threw the whole lot at people. I think I'm honesty fucked from the head just to consider the idea.

ETA: this is kind of addequate, because today at OS the professor was talking about passwords, and how his account in the university in Santiago de Compostela was abused by some student who guessed his password -which happened to be, of course, professor's very own first name.
