taotrooper: A baby pegasus eating grapes (Fantasia / I brake for grape)
Uuuuuuh, hey! How's it going?

Nothing much around here. It's freaking cold. My laptop overheats. I bought a second-hand iPod Touch to use iOS-only apps. I keep importing new Okami merchandising because I have a fucking collection. I continued with my German course. I'm also going to Madrid for a few days, in two weeks! Things I should be doing more of? Working on my final college project. Oops. Playing the games/apps I keep buying on Humble Bundle. Reading more stuff, watching more stuff. Obviously updating DW/LJ.

Okay, so, what should I talk about...

Happy belated new year? Welp, there are still 360 days left counting today, so it's not like I'm too late. LJ wouldn't open to me on the 31st and 1st, and I didn't want to post without a crosspost.

Two things, then. I've seen people still doing yearly scrapbooks and lists to keep track of what they'll check on 2013. I always do that kind of post and I forget to edit them later, and then at end of year memes I'm like WAIT WHAT BUT I WATCHED MORE SHIT so I'll do a new approach this year. I'm keeping track of progress on shows and books and stuff with cloud apps. And since it's easier to make it look pretty there, I'm making a log of finished stuff in a sideblog :D

The other one is the yeeeeeeear in reviewwwwwww meeeeeeeeme.

It's full of pain )

What am I looking forward to for 2013? Fuck if I know. There's Marvel stuff I'm interested in (and fearing it, in Young Avengers' case). Maybe I'll finish a video game or get a console; I think my brother is eying the Vita and P4G. There's a lot of stuff to catch up in my HDD and DVD collection too. So I have more to bite that I can chew, so it's just a matter of what and when to jump into. I need new fandoms urgently because I miss having an OTP.
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Alphonse / take this)
Let's see, what did I have to tell? Not much, except for uncomfortable family stuff I don't really feel like mentioning. I've been just roleplaying on our cozy panfandom game in my free time, mostly, and involving our growing Marvel (I accidentally typed CLAMP, LOL subconscious) Cinematic Universe cast, with some 616 folks around.

Yesterday was the comic book fair in my city. This was the loot:
→ Rurouni Kenshin Kanzenban #17-18
→ Saint Young Men #2
→ Siegfrid #1-2
→ a Doctor Who mug

Other stuff I bought this past month:
→ Journey into Mystery (Spanish trade #1)
→ Rurouni Kenshin Kanzenban #15-16

Welp, time to start suffering over Everything Burns, the crossover mini-event that ends Journey into Mystery (or at least Gillen's run) and The Mighty Thor. I was reading Isaac's interview about Thor: God of Thunder and I felt so underwhelmed. It's not like it's bad, but he's putting aside everything I like about modern Thor series (supporting cast, Asgard as almost her own character, interactions of Asgardians with humans, etc.) So IDK, I should take this as a sign to maaaaybe read Simonson stuff and leave current Thor alone for the rest of this year after EB ends.

By The way, [livejournal.com profile] etrangere (can't remember your DW username right now), I have to eat my own hat because I read The Incredible Hercules and I really, really enjoyed it!

Oh, and I also found Gravity Falls so adorable and fun! It's like a mix of Eerie, Indiana with Courage the Cowardly Dog.
taotrooper: A fat cat youkai is posing sexy and making a Titanic reference (Nyanko-sensei / ou la la)
Long time no see :o

→ Raaaaaah, I'm sure that I won't get my copy of Son of Neptune until a week or two after it's out! Why? Because book store is slow and uses the slowest British Royal Mail option. My order included two other books, and they sent them on the 19th-20th. I still haven'y gotten them yet. Whenever they arrive, I'll count 10 days after it. Welp, I guess I'll have to hunt for the ebook copy anyway... /impatient

→ The season start of the ponies was quite good (despite the fact no one explained where IS Luna). May I say I loved Discord? I'm a sucker for trickster troll villains, and he managed to be terrifying and funny at the same time. I'll miss you, magnificent bastard.

→ Related to the above. Is it wrong I want to retake Star Trek: TNG because of My Little Pony? I really liked Q in the one episode I saw with him, and Discord was pretty much Q meets Drosselmeyer from Princess Tutu, so.

→ Back to cartoons, my jaw dropped when I saw how the Adventure Time fandom on Tumblr is basking on femslash. Granted, I do ship Bubblegum/Marceline as well and I'm loving the fanart, but the whole explosion was just astonishing. I shake my head at the Mathematical youtube channel wank, and I really doubt this would ever be made canon no matter what anyone does. Except maybe Natasha Allegri, bless her.

→ I'm glad there will be a fourth season of Natsume Yuujinchou, if only because I can now marathon this one without feeling bad. This is one anime I'm okay with endless fillers because of its nature.

→ Welp, Who season finale tonight. Might or not post again, depending on the mess that happens.
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Tamaki is our king)
Not much going on in my life beyond RPing and stupid IRL drama. Ugh, whatever.

Tiger & Bunny is pissing me off with its inability to stick to one plot at the time and the pile of continuous twists. Let me know when/if it gets less ADHD and the two main characters are likable again any time soon. I feel too annoyed to feel sorry/scared for them. Obviously I'm the only one feeling like this, but oh well.

Thundercats and Adventure Time are still awesomesauce.

→ I've been downloading the episodes of Natsume Yuujinchou San as they come out, but I still haven't checked them out.

→ I'm very into weird surreal Britcom again. Send help. And recs.

→ You know what's unbelievably fun? The live action dorama of Ouran! No, really! As cheesetacular and corny and narmy as it is, those sfx are actually very fitting (expecially since most revolve about Tamaki, and he's all about hamming). The more episodes I watch, the more convincing everything gets. And the actors do a pretty good job at their characters, most especially Haruhi. Tamaki's actor's pouty lips are so distracting, but he's actually rocking the role. I actually like Kyouya here (go figure). Oh, and I fucking love that Nekozawa was upgraded to main character.
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Anise / fangirling)
No idea if this will go through, because I can't get most pages to load 100% recently. But I shall try.

Guys, beyond my RP friends, who else is watching Electrickittens Thundercats 2011? Because ho my god, that was a badass premiere and I want more of this in my life. Is it next Friday yet?

Hey, is this a formal reaction post? I think it is )
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Cheren+Bianca / What strength means)
First things first. I revamped my domain despite the fact I haven't worked in any sites forever. Mostly because it had been so long with the same layout and most images were broken and that's sad. So here it is, a little dull but at least it's clean and a fairly good practice to some CSS3.

mercury-retrograde.net

If I ever get less lazier, I'll make the avatar-ish image in the sidebar a random image of fandoms I like. And maybe make skins in different colors. But so far it's enough as it is.

Fandom-wise, I haven't been up to a lot of stuff. I've kind of been really active on plurk but mostly because a lot of friends from the RP are over there. I've been limiting my time on Tumblr because it's a fucking black hole for visual magpies, but I still check the dash and update my blogs at least twice a day.

New anime season, other shit I've watched, me failing as gamer forever )

ETA: I did buy a HDD in the end. It's a 1TB electric blue WD which I named TARDIS.
taotrooper: A baby pegasus eating grapes (Fantasia / I brake for grape)
So... honestly, I haven't updated this journal lately because I didn't have anything clever to say. I've been wasting time with TV, mostly silly cartoons, and the occasional book. So I'll try to remedy that by doing a short review of stuff I've been following.

But to make things sillier, I'll use ONE SINGLE IMAGE to convey my feelings on every show.

Inside: Doctor Who, this season's 'in' anime, ponies, robots, Adventure Time )
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Ingway / I have a cunning plan)
So Madoka Magica ended. Spoilers ) In short, I didn't get attached like everyone else, but it was, uh, an interesting thing to watch overall.

I... have been watching some anime of this season, but while some are entertaining or intriguing, there isn't a show that really grabbed me and made me think "I'm so watching this till the end!" I should probably finish second seasons of shows I liked, like Sengoku Basara and Arakawa Under the Bridge.

In non-anime news, I also started watching The Almighty Johnsons because I'm still in my Norse mythology butchery kick, and I'll gladly read/watch/play almost anything with references to that pantheon. The first episode was okay. The torrents are pretty slow, though. And I have to get used to the Kiwi accent.

Yaaaaaay, tomorrow Doctor Who!
taotrooper: Plastic toy aliens stare at you in wonder (LOL aliens!)
Seems like LJ is well today. Give me more characters?

→ So the Level E anime ended, and I have no idea about anyone else (haters gonna hate gif goes here just in case) but regardless I LIKED IT. Spoilers )

→ Watched what's released of Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica like 90% of anime fandom. FELT LIKE CLAMP ON (MORE?) DEPRESSING CRACK BUT WITH MOE ART. I don't even. But it was worth it because I've seen some photoshopped parodies everywhere and now I can understand them! Yeah, guess I'm watching this for the lulzy factors, which is doing it completely wrong. I mean, I do feel so sorry for the girls but if I get focused on the plot I'd die inside.

→ I'm really excited about Doctor Who because of the trailers.

→ Wow, the Thundercats remake is going to be a lot more epic than the original series. I'm honestly looking forward to it!

→ Okay, we're going to Madrid in the end, from the 12th to the 15th. We won't be able to go to a lot of places because of time + money, but it's something anyway. I feel bad about this but... ) But eh, at least I'll see baby pandas and statues of Roman gods! Besides, there are THREE geek shops a few blocks from the place we're staying, so let's see if I can buy at least one or two shiny things! Too bad we probably can't afford Cirque of Soleil.
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Raine / Geeking over obscure things)
Hi to everyone from the F!S friending meme! You can call me Kiri or Chris, let's get along.

I still haven't written the Ghost Trick spoilery post because I'm a lazy bastard. By the way, the lack of official art in the interwebs is appalling. No one has ripped the character mugshots...? Damn, now I'll have to do it myself to make icons.

Either way, went shopping today. Here, January is a sales month in retail, and it's really mean to pull this crap on people right after the Holidays. But yeah, it's the time of the month where I can buy stuff like DVDs or boots (I HAVE THREE, MOM, WHY MORE?) without worries.

Here's the loot:
→ Ghost Trick (yeah, I played it on emulator; let me tell you, it was an odyssey to find it in my city)
→ Pokémon Diamond (it was cheap, so yeah; of course, cue facepalm.gif when I saw Pearl in the rival game store even cheaper)
→ The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (I know I have a reader, but a friend recced it and the paperback was 10€)
→ How to Train Your Dragon (with the bonus DVD eeeeee)
→ Paprika (favorite Satoshi Kon movie, or the reason why Inception didn't impress me)
→ The Road to El Dorado (DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD TO FIND IS THIS ONE? SORRY BELLE, YOU'RE MY CHILDHOOD HEROINE AND SHIT, BUT BatB IS EXPENSIVE AND MY CRUSH ON MIGUEL)
→ Ghostbusters (I blame an RP thread)
→ Big Fish (favorite Tim Burton movie)
→ Pushing Daisies season 2 (also blame RP, first season was nice anyway)
→ Primeval season 1 (it looks 100% lamesauce, but I blame using Andrew Lee-Potts as PB)
→ ETA: two coats (mom insisted, they look cool)

And I think I have to download some Spanish period novelas dramas, because seeing the DVD packs intrigued me. La Princesa de Éboli has a heroine with an eyepatch, while Águila Roja sounds like some old continent version of Zorro. We'll see.

taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Pkmn / happy Gastly)
Um, so. I idled out LJ for some reason. Sorry for not commenting lately, I have been reading you guys regardless.

a) Oh, most of you have already heard about a Fullmetal Alchemist sidestory coming up next month ♥ I've seen idiots complaining about Arakawa milking the cow (pun probably not intended) but anyway, haters to the left. I'm so fucking excited! And I'll be agonizing over whom it will be about. I don't care as it's just more goodness, although I'd like to see minor characters or something in Xing. Or both.

b) With FMA and soon Ouran, I'm kind of lost. I need something to look forward to read every month. I mean sure, I have my historical Afternoon seinen, but both Historie and Vinland Saga are going slow and even boring lately...

c) ...So in an attempt to give more excitement to my months without resorting to the inconveniences of shounen, I just had an affair with some American comics. Needless to say, it backfired fiercely. From DC I'm only keeping Booster Gold, I love it and feel so alone in this. And I'm hoping to see Jaime Reyes and the rest of the Blue Beetle peeps one day in something non-Teen Titans (I tried, then got kicked in the balls when I felt safe.) From Marvel I, um, I'll probably finish the Siege event (shuddup, I like Asgard-in-Oklahoma), maybe keep Thor for the lulz, and read spoilers for the Young Avengers... but fuck me if I get more involved with that messy mindfuck 'verse. I just concluded Marvel is the manry, Western version of CLAMP and no one will convince me otherwise.

To show my point? Doctor Strange is a Clow descendant. HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THIS ARRAY I DON'T EVEN.

d) More news on Okamiden with a new trailer. trailer spoilers )

e) Is it me or Sherlock BBC and Inception have eaten the Internet?

e.1) I still haven't downloaded Sherlock, but I'm such a geek I've been reading Watson's blog and Sherlock's website. And I've taken pride on the fact I've solved the three hidden messages on the same day they are released. They're way too easy to me, but it might have to do with the fact I liked secret codes since I was little and I already knew the first and the third system. The second I figured out with Google. Sherlock is right, this stalker is BORING.

e.2) I did watch Inception (at the cinema, even) and it didn't leave me much of a impression. I even disliked the ending. I think I'll just quote what I said to my family yesterday at lunch: "Do you guys realize we're doing exactly what Nolan intended? He left all those vague threads and plotholes hanging so people wouldn't stop talking about his movie. And it IS working." I also believe he wrote Tom Hardy's dialogs with Joseph Gordon-Levitt all slashy on purpose so this would have a fandom. Again, apparently it is working too.
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Anise / fangirling)
So, Doctor Who season 5. Took me a while to watch it whole. My thoughts are summed by this gif:

AND I LOVE EVERYONE! ♥

And I'm NEVER touching the fandom because River is my fucking favorite.

Oh, also? Waiting for Ouran 81 is PAINFUL.

taotrooper: A girl is laughing evilly, maybe yelling something like I AM THE MELON LORD (Toph / LULZ)
Here's a hilarious scary thought. Remember when I presented my troll predictions of the World Cup for the lulz? Yes? Even though Brazil did beat Chile, it was the only one I've missed so far. Moreover, it sorted itself out and my plan for the future semi-finals is actually happening anyway.

DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUN

I doubt shit is going to happen exactly as I said, but the four main places are still a permutation of the ones I was non-betting on. That's it, carry on with your schedule.

P.S.: Don't blame me, blame Mick Jagger for being a jinx.

P.P.S.: ELEVEN IS DONALD DUCK'S LOST TWIN. No wonder I found him adorable.
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Tamaki / read more)
Feliz cumpleaños, [livejournal.com profile] hamsterfactor! :D

Yesterday I watched How to Train your Dragon and it was sweet. Am I one of the only people who thought it had potential since the trailer? I see almost everyone was all wary because it was Dreamworks, while I was all 'VIKINGS AND DRAGONS, they have to mess up pretty badly to get it wrong."

I also started the fifth season of Doctor Who, even though I skipped the whole run of Ten. Eleven is adorable so far. Nothing against Amy and the others, but why is it that all companions in the 'new' series are adult straight females from the XXI century?

ANYWAY! Today is Saint George and Book Day in Spain, so I went on a haul to get books with 10% off. It was awesome! I spent nearly 100€ in shit, also. Here is the loot:

Video games (okay, not everything was books)
Beautiful Katamari
Madworld

IT stuff
→ one about PHP 6 and MySQL development
→ one about webapp development, useful for my project
I wanted to get more, like one for CSS and one for Struts, but reference books are so expensive!

Fantasy lit
Percy Jackson 5 in English, fuck yeah
→ Pratchett's Carpe Jugulum

Mythology nerd cred
→ a children's compilation (well, 14+) of stories from Ovid's Metamorphosis. It has pretty illustrations and all!
→ a small one analyzing Dionysus, I thought it seemed interesting
→ a generic one on Egyptian mythology because I didn't have any

ETA: Crap, I forgot the Manga
→ Fullmetal Alchemist 23
→ The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
→ The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
taotrooper: This wank deserves an icon with people eating popcorn (Persona / popcorn.gif)
So, monthly shopping~ I told myself not to burn all my money on comics/books and none of it in video games. I ended up looking at the DVD section, so I got the second season of Dead Like Me. There was a promotion of shitty cheap editions, 4 for 20 euros, but since it's been going since new year's there wasn't much to get. Two movies were random picks for pretty people in it*: The Departed (which is apparently fucking good) and Troy (which is known to be hilariously bad, I'm all for mocking). The other two I really wanted to buy, and they're two of the feeeew Burton films I remember fondly: Beetlejuice and Mars Attack.

Oh, and I also got the fourth Percy Jackson novel and the second Ocarina of Time manga, which together with the DLM boxset are things I truly needed in my life.

* I assure you, my inner sixteen-year-old is ironically cackling at me. Fuck you.
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Raine / the texture of these tiles!)
happy new year! ♥

I'll break the deredere to say thank you, for being around. I know I'm a lousy friend, but this was a shitty year and without you guys or fandom, it would've been even more sucktacular. You make me feel less lonelier, so gracias.

Now let's try to recap this past year a bit. This is completely subjective, of course.

1. Post about something that made you happy today even if it's just a small thing.
2. Do this everyday for a week without fail.

Day 3

- Singing silliness in RP
- [livejournal.com profile] kirarakim uploaded the Bakeneko arc of Ayakashi (thank you ♥ I still have to download the rest of things) so now I have all Mononoke back again.
- Watching Abyss skits in youtube. I'm on the 200th.

Day 4

- The IT Crowd mocking Facebook was awesome.
- I got Lilo & Stitch this morning and plan to watch it soon. Believe it or not, I haven't watched it yet.
- Someone did the prison cell in the last case of Apollo Justice in pixel art. That's freaking awesome!
- Tetris blocks in Sydney

1. Post about something that made you happy today even if it's just a small thing.
2. Do this everyday for a week without fail.

DAY ONE

- I bought the fourth season of Futurama
- XKCD's a guide to understand flow charts... presented in flow chart form
- Pushpin Mario 3
- I'm up to date with How I Met Your Mother now.
taotrooper: It's a polar bear dancing the hula; your argument is invalid (Death the Kid / So beauuuuutiful)
We had a hailstorm on Saturday. It was pretty hardcore and we even lost TV/internet for half the day. On the meantime, I looked for Stray Beads in Okami. Hey, did you notice Samurai Dandy's back will sport whatever thing you drew on the kimono shop? At least after doing the kimono design sidequest, I have no idea about before. Now I must check in another save file just for kicks.

My God, no one told me the new season of The IT Crowd started a couple of weeks ago! *flails* So I marathoned the two episodes on Sunday, plus last week's How I Met Your Mother. OMG, such epic lulz. Also, the last two anime episodes of Tales of the Abyss, which I'm enjoying. I've also been watching some game videos.

It's like all I watch recently on real-action TV are sitcoms. Oh well, The IT Crowd will be my British show for this season while people on LJ rave about The Devil's Whore or Merlin. *is weird like that, whatever*

Have a nice December. Me, I'll rack my brains in the next few hours to study for my English class final which is at 7:00 pm. And I have no idea what to learn, seriously. So wish me luck.
